Cal jr, it is a nice court if it were anywhere, I think I can be a volleyball fan of particular programs and have some objectivity. The court is a great training tool for players who are not fortunate enough to access to a beach or quality sand courts. As someone who is obviously not a Nebraska fan, I am certain you yourself would admit it is an excellent court.

Not to chime in on the good/bad of spending $50M for a sports facility (when the Medieval History and Culture Dept is barely surviving with chump change...) but it's a pretty nice facility. Love skywalks! Give 'em to me! Shopping malls, indoor arenas, movie complexes, hotels, parking complexes, museums...love all skywalks everywhere! I can understand its practicality. Easy access between/among different buildings so people can bypass street traffic; winters can be cold so it's good to keep people warm. Summers can be oppressive with its humidity so keep people cool. I like it.
The sand court, however, is an eye-sore. The brick wall really takes away from the ambiance.

Certainly the aesthetics surrounding the court are spartan. They will paint the walls and put a Nebraska or Nebraska volleyball logo on the wall in the near future, the facility is not complete. It is pretty plush, they had to keep up with the joneses aka the facility Oklahoma built. All of it is excessive. In 5 years someone will build a nicer one and so on and so on. The nice thing is it is not paid for by tax payers or student tuition, they can spend it anyway they like as long as they are doing that. When academic instutions build athletic facilities with student or tax payer dollars is where it get's offensive.

Great place to leave the kids. But leave the cats at home. Sorry, didn't see this, excellent thinking.... has anyone else every played vb in a sand pit and then found out as you're playing the local cats have adopted the pit? Not a good feeling.

Wouldn't it be cool if Hawai'i built an indoor cornfield? BiK could work on his crop circles.

No amount of covering on the brick wall is going to help. It's still a vertical brick wall.

There actually hasn't been much snow in the last few years to be honest. I think it has something to do with all the garbage being spewed into the atmosphere over there in California contributing to global warming. By the way if California were a country, it would rank as the 12th largest emitter (is that the right word) of carbon dioxide. (or maybe its some other gas, I just caught the tail end of the report)

And most of that probably comes from LA traffic.
Instead of dropping forty bazillion dollars per year on the same-old same-old of bombing muslims, we need leadership who will drop a fraction of that cost on a radical refiguring of american transportation. If we spent our considerable power and intellect weaning ourselves from oil dependency, none of those nutjobs over there would have the means to be a threat to anyone else, and they could go back to slaughtering each other with stones and scimitars.

That's some dirty looking sand. And the beach game sucks, anyway.

Yes, the beach game sucks, but I think a couple of the posters above mentioned the use of this sand court to improve the girls' hard court games. Less injuries and whatnot on the soft sand. Me, I can't move on the sand, so I don't quite get the connection.
