Plus, a lefty gives the opportunity to run the X for the front slide. That's my favorite play that Florida runs for McCray.

I have seen many teams out of the top 25 with a good lefty, it makes you wonder why aren't all the top teams going specifically after them? Look at a team like Colorado, not a elite team but, their lefty still was holding her own...........Hawaii just needs to recruit a lefty for opposite!! Part of the reason is that Shoji doesn't put a lot into the opposite hitting. He likes a good blocker but doesn't use an opposite to hit a lot. Usually, that's due to the fact that he loves to run the slide and so a strong attacking opposite isn't necessary. Or, Shoji likes a middle at the right side so he can run the slide on top of a quick set, as well as using combinations like a double quick or a double slide. Truthfully, I love watching those plays and I think if Hawaii used it more, they could do some damage. On top of that, Shoji likes to have the outsides "roam" around. Under the assumption Mason, Hittle, and Houston are healthy, the three are very different styled outside hitters. It makes it very difficult for the defense to defend against all 3 hitters if all are hitting from both the left and the right side and all have a different hitting style. A lefty makes it impossible to do that. A lefty would be really fun to watch and makes some very interesting plays, but I don't think it would make a huge difference for Hawaii.
