The Stanford/USC match-up on Thursday will be broadcast live at 7 pm on FSN Prime (in LA area). They actually will start the telecast at 6.30 pm with pre-game festivites.

If you want to go to see it you bet get your tickets fast. As of Friday they only had 3,500 left out of 10,200. It's the opening gala for the new Galen Center, so lots of people will want to be there who don't normally come to the Lyon Center.

This will be an interesting match-up for the USC team:
1) Stanford is stacked with stud hitters every year, and this year's team is no different. Stanford has shown that when the team is on, it can steam-rolled past opponents. Barboza is on fire and Richards has picked up her play tremendously against Cal.
2) This will be USC's first match at the Galen Center which will give a different sense of space, compared to the Lyon Center. The big question is how the team responds to the pressure of playing in a live telecast in front of a big home crowd (hopefully it would energize the team, but could also provide the burden of having to proof to be a legit top team in order to entice the crowd to return for more matches). It has been reported that only 2-3K of tickets are left, but I don't know whether they will open the upper balcony or whether the crowd will actually come once the arena has been built (at this point, it is hard for me to think that the vball attendance will jump from 800s per match to 3-4k, which if it actually occurs, it would be great for the team).
3) For USC team, I think the strategy will likely be almost similar to their game strategy in the upset win over UW. One thing though is that I think USC needs to mix it up and have Kaczor hit more from the right rather than the left, and Carico has to be aggressive on her trademark "310" slams to keep Stanford's MBs honest. Bishop has to be more active in the offense too in order to open the net.
I'm sure it would be a great match though I'll only be able to watch the tape later as I have a class to teach, but I can't wait to see the Galen Center on friday (against Cal).

that attendance is not gonna be as advertised more than half of those will be mugged or be scared away by the hood i'm sure as hell not even gonna go @least for the opening nite not coz i'm affraid of the hood but coz i don't like looking for parking on the streets i already had a run in w/a perp there 7yrs ago when i caught it stealing my stereo (and it was only a stock stereo w/o a cassette nor a cd player) what a tool good thing i caught it in the act as i came back and beat the scheiza out of it yes i mite've gotten overboard on it's beatdown but it de served it haha when i won the a ssault & battery charges it only pr oved that i had every rite to beat the scheiza out of that puke
anyway if richards is healthy stanford will sweep the la schools again coz girard finally has timing w/kehoe & blocking well too all stanford will do w/usc is to funnel kaczor to richards and shut dwn the middles mainly jo hansen then the other outsides could be limited they don't have to shutdwn asia just as long as most her hits are funnelled to richards

At least the booze will be flowing. Any word if such GANG LUMINARIES as Snoop Dog, Biggie Smalls or Dr Dre will be in attendance?

Stanford will win. Long Beach will be well represented by the two B's.....Barboza and Beachman.

Stanford has an edge in its starters, with Barboza and their MBs, but I would expect Haley to exploit certain Cardinal weaknesses on passing and backrow defense. Also, if USC servers put pressure on Stanford's passing (like it did with UW), then USC has a very good chance on coming out ahead.

If they can limit Barboza's kills, and keep the Stanford block guessing, USC will win.
If Barboza, Richards, and the rest of the gang are firing away at will, Stanford will win.

PAC-10 volleyball is awesome stuff.
