Everyone will really have to be firing on all cylinders to take PSU. Their blocking will need to improve and keeping up their great passing. PSU is very good, but they are not unbeatable. Lets hope Hebert can get these ladies fired up and confident in front of their home crowd. I think it is a good time for the gophers to really impress some more people.

I watched the Gophers take Nebraska to 5 and nearly beat them last year... I was shocked when the Gophers peeled a game off the Lions at State College this year...
OSU will be a great warm-up Friday, and Wisconsin will give the Lions a tough match.
Saturday, the gloves are off and all eyes from in the BIg Ten will be on Minneapolis. If PSU doesn't bring their A game -- this one is up for grabs!

And what if PSU brings their A game and Minnesota brings their A game do we get a repeat of 05 ? Heard that Salyer is back at right side having recovered from broken finger 6 weeks ago. Looks like the Lions will be at full strength this weekend.

Hopefully, both teams bring their A games (and I also hope that MN hasn't played their A game yet). That would make for a great match.
However, if PSU wants to bring their A-/B+ game, that will be fine with me.

If both teams bring their "A" games and PSU smokes MN we can only say "WOW". And last year I think that MN was still reeling from the tough OSU loss the night before.

Gentil didn't even start _and_ they switched to a 5-1.
Plus, I don't think Sammy T ever played a better match in her life. She was incredible.
Wasn't PSU the first match? I've blacked it all out, I guess.

Nope, OSU was on Friday night. I looked 'er up.
It's kinda hazy for me, too. I just remember Main had 12 kills on the night.

RECRUITING: Any news.......I know we landed a setter for '08, but who else is out there? Who are we targeting? I'm still concerned that we haven't received another top 1-2 commits for this class. And frankly, with the improvement of this season's play (nearly a top 10 team), and two of the top 5 recruits for '07 coming in, there should be no excuse for us to not land another one or two top 10 players.
And don't give me that "it's hard to convince them to come to MN" crap. If Nebraska, the hell-hole of the midwest, can get the best, there is NO reason we shouldn't either -- esp. when we have a much better coaching staff and a city that offers so much more.

First of all, there's not that many 08s committed, so we don't have to panic yet. Maybe next month?
It did not help recruiting when they fell out of the Top 25 -- another reason why that poll vexes me so. Irks even. But it's still early.
Nebraska has it all over Minnesota in terms of volleyball atmosphere. Even so, Nebraska doesn't get them from too far away -- except maybe Pavan, who as we all know almost came here. It's not crap. It IS hard to get players to come here. Ohio and Illinois are not like California (or North Carolina).
So let's see how it goes for 2008. We'll see if that's still the case. Sooner or later, someone's bound to sacrifice a little warmth for a great program, right? Right?

One would hope, but like I've said before, we need to keep growing some great talent locally and keep them. I see prepvolleyball.com has a few MN HS sophs that they are putting on the "radar," including a couple that are already being recruited heavily. So we have to keep our JO programs strong and keep building.
Also, who the hell is going to pass next year? I know we said this last year, but good lord..........Tan, but then who? I still think Dieter will play a lot next year, mostly cuz she will be able to play all the way around. But I haven't been impressed with any of our DS, who have seen zero playing time, except when our seniors were out. Maybe Cowles will help fill that void.

How many scholarships will Minnesota have for 2008? Jones and the extra one?

Depends on Jackson getting a 5th year, but 3 (with Blatt verbally committed), if she doesn't:
KRoh Hartmann KVodt Schmidt
Hagerty
Gibbemeyer Dieter Phillips Cowles
Blatt

That would leave 2.
