Didn't take long for the Boilers to rack up theur 8th win in the Big Ten as they handled the Hoosiers 21/22/19. The middles big again with Lynch hitting over .500 and 13 kills and Jacques hitting over .700 with 8 kills and 6 blocks! Mader continued her hitting spree with a 11 kill night hitting .588! Watch out Big Ten...The Boilers are starting to hit the ball!

You know, if Hawaii beats Fresno St in three games, there are 10 pages of play-by-play followed by 5 pages of analysis.
But when Purdue wins in three, the only responses are condescending?
If you don't want to discuss the match, that doesn't bother me. But why the need to belittle anyone who does?
I didn't make it until the match was 12 - 7 in game three, when Purdue put on a big run with Dildine serving. I did get to see a lot of Krystal King and Meg McCormick, though...
Coach's comments on the radio and in the paper focused on the passing of Dildine and Miller starting the action, and Jacques credited the setting for getting the ball into the right spot.
Apparently Asst Coach John Shondell has been focusing more on passing in the last few days. I hope it works. Running the 6-2, they really need to have good passes because the setters don't have a lot of options to deal with out of system plays, and, although Merlau is much better than last year, she still isn't the terminator who can take anything.

How did Merlau play? Was she hitting the ball hard or still dinking and dumping? Based upon P-dub's comment it sounds like she needs a perfect or very good set to take the hard swing.
And, hey, if Hawai'i posters only analyzed their matches when playing tough competition, they wouldn't have much to post about.

No, she doesn't need a "perfect" set to hit. In fact, she does a pretty good job of handling the ball out of system (and she does it a lot). When I say she "isn't the terminator who can take anything," I mean more in a Stacey Gordon sense.
She doesn't always hit hard, but uses her height to find openings. And she uses a lot of spin shots. She's not as good at Mader at making the best decision for how to hit a given ball, but she is more effective than Sami in general on the shots she makes.
To reiterate, to say she can't terminate from anywhere isn't really a criticism. I'd make the same comment about 99% of the hitters in the country. There aren't a lot of Nicole Fawcetts and Sarah Pavans in college volleyball, so saying Danita is not a Nicole Fawcett is not a big criticism.

Ah, I understand better now. Good to see Purdue playing better. I wish them luck the rest of the season, save for November 24th, of course.

Yeah, it's kind of weird because I am talking about what Purdue needs to get to an elite level, like, what separates Purdue from the top teams in the country.
I remember very well a couple of years ago when Purdue played IU and were just happy they could win after Renata got hurt (and Lindsey set the rest of the match). That was a sign we had advanced significantly. Nowadays, they win in three and it is ho-hum, and we are talking about what separates this team from the elite in the country. And it's not a lot at this point, in an absolute sense. They are a lot closer than they used to be, that's for sure.

It was much more of, "better watch out (Big Ten), Purdue's on a roll" again type of post. There was no belittling or condescension intended. I just gently reminded him (or her) that their roll started at home against a much less than formidable foe.

Whatever you need to tell yourself. Does using the generic phrase "Whatever you need to tell yourself" all the time make you feel better about yourself or something? Because bomber's post couldn't have been less instigatory, and there you go shooting from the hip once again. It is so tired.

WOW...some folks with a little too much caffine today! My post was just to say that over the past four matches the Boiler hitters have come to life and if you include the Minnesota match, it would be five. Be honest, I'm awful proud of a team that hasn't quite found itself yet has somehow managed to stay in the BIG TEN race. My apologies to all for being an enthusiastic supporter of my team. Bomber...Guess I need to get a life like yours....

It is clear that Wisconsin is still heads and tails above the Purdue team. Just look at the results from the match in Madison. Spike might be happy with how his team is playing against the Northwesterns, Illinois, and Indianas of the world, but just wait until they see more of the big four!

We will see who is in 3rd place in the Big Ten, after this weekend. I bet it won't be Wisconsin!
