I'm guessing she'll continue to play sparingly for the time being, probably subbing in for Houston if she has troubles in the back row.

Mason, Juliana, and KK did well. Ha! Devin Scruggs needs to do more scouting, she did keep Houston from having a good night, but it's like they forgot about Mason- she was on tonight. Juliana did a good job tonight. Compared to other matches she put balls to the floor when it mattered. However, you can't complement Sanders or Mason without honoring KK. Which by the way is pronounced (kah-mah-na-oh)!!!!! ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) . Whatever, those mainland broadcasters never got those Hawaiian names right. Anyway back to KK's game tonight. She did a superb job of keeping the UN block honest. She really made Mason and Sanders(and in game 2 and 3) Houston look really good. The past few matches, I was trying to figure out how they were actually able to play as good as they seem to have at NMSU. At first I thought NMSU must really be bad for the same UH team that went four with SJSU/Idaho to come as close as they did to winning. But then now, I know.... it was because they did that night to the Aggies what they did tonight against Nevada. It was actually weird because it felt as if they do better on the road then at home... go figure. The Wahine are going to have to get tighter quickly because the season is almost over.... there were balls that dropped between two players more than there should be.

lol, they've had all season to shore up that aspect of the game. This is the first season I've followed where communication was such a setback on a Wahine team/

I think a realistic goal for the Wahine is to win their remaining conference matches, win the WAC tournament, get the #4 seed to the Honolulu Regional, win an NCAA sub-regional and put up a fight in the regional semis. After the Wahine's worst loss in the rally scoring era (10-30, 22-30, 24-30) to Stanford in September, the Star-Bulletin said that the gap between Stanford and Hawai'i was "as wide as the Pacific Ocean". The Wahine are better now, but all the potential #1 seeds in the Honolulu Regional... Stanford, UCLA, Penn State, perhaps Nebraska... are looking pretty nasty.

Is Hawaii usually better than they played tonight, or was this somewhat typical for them? If this wasn't a down night, I can see what has the Hawaii fans perplexed. I know they have had injuries, but they made some just really bonehead plays due to poor communication. Nevada made a lot of mistakes too; it wasn't too pretty. There were a lot of mi%*$#s on both sides as well. Mason was impressive, and Sanders did a good job of putting down overpasses for kills and controlling the net on the block. Hawaii did look like a good blocking team; that seemed to be their greatest strength. Kanoe probably looked as good as you can running around a lot. I don't know why the announcers didn't just ask someone from Hawaii how to pronounce her name. You don't look dumb doing that, while you do by getting it wrong. Houston obviously had a really off night, but I was surprised how Nevada was able to block her a couple of times even when she did get a good set. All in all, Hawaii looked like a team that was good enough to sweep Nevada tonight. Against a better team, who knows? I will say you don't want to get stuck going left side all night against them, or you will probably lose. On the other hand, their passing can get them into the same situation, and it is hard to beat good teams that way. I do think they will play well and beat NMSU in Hawaii, though. I would also expect them to win the conference tournament.

Although, Houston had an off night, which by the way is pretty typical now days - someone stepped up. If houston has a great night, Mason probably doesn't. I notice with Mason is that sometimes she might not make many errors in a match but she doesn't put the ball away which leads her low hitting percentage. Houston by far has long, long ways to go. From last year she made Freshmen errors and I thought it'll get better as she gains experience, but not so far. Hawaii's passing was as typical as it can be. Those 4 dropped balls are as typical as they can be. Long way for Na Wahine

HI sweeps, relatively easily despite Houston's struggles (10K, 11err). Nevada definitely keyed on her, as they said they would, but had no answer for Sanders (12K, .611, 6 blck assists) and Mason (13K, .333). Jayme Lee led the team w/11 digs. KK w/35 assists -- and she's the WAC record holder now. Congrats to the Bows for getting it done in Reno. ... on to Utah St.... It's great that the Wahine were able to win even with Houston struggling early. From Shoji's interview, it sounds like Duggins will be playing backrow for Kaufman against Utah. Where does that leave Woolford? Woolford sucks anyways. Duggins did a much better job from tonight only.

Clearly, Sanders and Kamana`o were the heroines of this match. Credit should also go to Duggins and Mason. I think DUggins playing over Woolford just shows that there is a continuous revolving door for that backrow specialist position, and Shoji wants to try his several options.

And Kaufman did well for the amount of sets she saw. At least statistically, she had a good all-around match.

It was great to see the match televised live tonight. Although, the announcers could have been better. Love the comment that Dodd, I think, made about Kamana'o starting the match only 4 assists away from the record and that she should have the record within the first couple of points. Nice math!

What a dissapointment for Nevada. Anyone know why they ran a 6-2 last night? And 5 freshmen on the court at the same time was scary.

Why several people say that Jamie hasn't improved this season if beyond me!!!
Her digs, her serving, her kills....all miles ahead of last year. Just look at the stats.

Even her hitting on the off plays is better. Not great, but definately better from even the beginning of this year. Glad the two of you see things the way I see them. Last year, Jamie was real weak in the back row. She's no Logan Tom or April Ross in the back row yet, but she's much improved since last year -- and she continues to get better. And although some people think she's all about power hitting, she has expanded her repertoire of shots and has been trying new things (different angles and also more touch shots) as the season has progressed. She keeps getting better by leaps and bounds. But of course, she's experienced bumps along the way. In light of the injuries suffered by her teammates this year, without Jamie's terminating ability, there's no way Hawaii would be still in the race for the conference championship with NMSU. They probably would have lost to several other conference teams by now, too.

I watched a little bit of this match. Anyone want to know what I thought?
I didn't think so.
