And Cal misses another chance at the big win they need to justify their ranking and get a seed. I know that Stanford is a tough team to beat at any time, except maybe when they lost the ability to play volleyball at BYU, but Cal is talented and should be able to win one of these matches.

Hadley here, reporting from Beserkely. Naturally no wireless here, being stuck in worst part of the 70's and almost 35 miles, as the drone flies, from Silicon Valley. Nonetheless, before presenting results, a request that certain VT poster(s) refrain from taking those close up photos of spandexed women athletes half your age, most of which never show up on Volleytalk. Get it? First of all - UC Berkeley was one of the pioneers in implementing a wireless network throughout campus for students and faculty. As an engineer working in the electronics industry, Cal grads are as responsible for much of the success of the Silicon Valley as any other school in the country. So I take it you have a disdain for pictures of spandexed women athletes? For the sake of fairness - I did take several close up photos of the Santa Clara at Cal men's club exhibition that followed tonight's main event. I also take photos of other sports, and I've got the usual vacation photos to boot. You're welcome to look: www.pbase.com/bearclause

I can think of a number of split communities where the universities are in cities with progressive/socialist politics and business-unfriendly economics and the associated businesses deliberately remain outside them (e.g., Cambridge, MA and all the Route 128 tech companies; Berkeley and Silicon Valley; San Francisco and South San Francisco biotech).

Oh whatever. Even if Bearclause was some letch taking pictures of hot women volleyball player, who cares. I'm sure that isn't the case w/ Bearclause, but so what if these women have admirers. They're 18 or over and it's harmless. Let's not be so freakin' stuffy.

So, BearClause.... any pics of Cal vs. Stanford? Spandex or not... well... I guess probably better if they DO have spandex... we wouldn't wanna get Wolfgang too excited.
primopik, what is the issue with BC's pictures?

Well - a lot of times I just "keep the film in the can" so to speak depending on my mood. I've got something else to share with you offline.

I don't know where this "business unfriendly" reputation comes from. Allegedly the city of Berkeley has a disdain for chain restaurants or large retail. However - they're very big on small scale manufacturing and high-tech businesses. Scharffen Berger Chocolate is still manufacturing in Berkeley even after Hershey bought them out. Drive along 6th Street a couple miles from the campus, and there are various small industries. The biggest problem with high-tech within the Berkeley city limits is a lack of land. There's a lot of incredible work being done in Emeryville though, including Pixar. Other high-tech industries are in Richmond, where the cost is cheaper. My former company had a design and research center in Berkeley. In part it was because the guy in charge lived in Berkeley, and partly because of the access to professors on the UC Berkeley campus for the basic research part of our operation. I remember in downtown Berkeley, Ericsson had a design center for wireless phone systems, which eventually closed shop when they had budget cuts. Several biotech companies started in Berkeley (like Cetus which eventually moved to Emeryville and was sold to Chiron). Bayer bought out Cutter Labs and still has a huge presence (1500 employees) in Berkeley. Their building is visible from I-80, although the "Cutter Laboratories" sign is long gone. The insect repellent business was sold off a while ago, but I remember as a kid seeing "Berkeley, California" on that label of bug juice. www.bayerus.com/communities/berkeley/index.htmlMy current company (spun off the previously mentioned company) would love to move back into Berkeley, but the office rents are just too high.

It mostly looks confused about how you could see it while it was trying to use its chameleon like powers to blend in with the rocks.

It mostly looks confused about how you could see it while it was trying to use its chameleon like powers to blend in with the rocks. Well - since marmots don't have binocular vision, I'm not sure exactly what it was looking at. I'm thinking they just look like that because it's cute and they know it. ;D Oh whatever. Even if Bearclause was some letch taking pictures of hot women volleyball player, who cares. I'm sure that isn't the case w/ Bearclause, but so what if these women have admirers. They're 18 or over and it's harmless. Let's not be so freakin' stuffy. Well - after the match was over, I was watching the Santa Clara vs Cal men's club exhibition, and Morgan Beck walked by on the way out. From behind me I heard someone muttering, "Oh my god she's gorgeous". I turned around and asked who I thought might be the most likely "culprit" and (with who looked to be his girlfriend next to him) he answered, "No - I don't think I said that." Yeah sure.
