So who is going to be the last spot now for 8th place? Pacific is out since UCI won. They best record that they can have is 6-14, but UCI already have a 7-14 record with only CSUN remaining. Stanford if they beat Pacific in their next game will also have a 7-14 record. Who is going to make the last spot? I am not sure who will win in tie breaker.

Stanford wins that tiebreaker if they face it as they beat UCI twice this year. If Pacific beats Stanford again, however, UCI gets the spot. If UCI beats CSUN, they get the spot.

Sure would like to see the Eater's get it... They have won recent matches in Hawaii, USC and at home against UCSB tonite. As hoped, their freshman kiddie corp is peaking. Hopefully they don't come up short this Saturday.

IMO UCI is like the early Dallas Cowboys teams before they became "America's Team." It is great to see how Speraw is shaping this team to become a future powerhouse. What is he....4 years out from winning a national championship?
Good luck to the scappy eaters...hope you do it.

Something to think about . . . The #8 seed plays #1 first round in the MPSF playoffs. If Irvine is the #8 team in the playoffs they would play BYU first round. Can Irvine pull off the big upset?
IMO - YES (especially with how they are playing now)

A better match would be UCI - BYU (american- under 23 age only)

That is funny. IMO Irvine is riding a momentum wave right now and I think they would have a better chance of upsetting the #1 seed than Stanford. Again, it is my opinion. It goes back to any team can beat any team on any given night!
I hope CSUN takes Irvine seriously on Saturday!

Rocky, do you really think that UCI can go into BYU and knock off a team with the caliber of BYU, not in your lifetime. Yes, UCI might have won the #8 playoff seed with a great win at Hawaii last week, but let's not get ahead of ourselves with predictions like the one you made. Can you give me one example of a position player who UCI has that is better than his counterpart on BYU? I don't think so. The great American dream, always root for the underdog...
Go Tritans!!!

Jimmy Pelzel, you are going to tell me that the opposite on BYU is better than him? I don't think so.

Thanks BangDown. Pelzel is playing pretty incredible. He is not as experienced as Hillman though, so I might still have to give the edge to Hillman for that position.
Knowing VB - did I predict UCI beating BYU? Reread my post. I said, "I think they would have a better chance of upsetting the #1 seed than Stanford". Please be careful what you are arguing and don't argue something that was not stated. It was and is my opinion.
As we have seen all season, any team can beat any team on any given night.
Again, I am not predicting an upset at this time. But, UCI is playing some of their best ball of the season right now. I only think they would have a better chance of upsetting BYU than Stanford. It is my opinion.
Would you agree that UCI would have a better chance than Stanford (based on their last couple games)?

edge??? hands down Pelzel is a better opposite than Hillman no matter the age difference. He hits a better ball and blocks way better, Pelzel is one of the best end blockers.

I remember an article last year (maybe in Volleyball Magazine) in which Speraw said that Pelzel blocked with his hands too close together and that was something they were working on improving.
I don't think Pelzel is exceptionally good as an Opp hitter. He's not very fluid on the right or from the D, that's why they had him at leftside instead of Opp on the WUG team last year - he wasn't as good as Patak or even Winters when hitting on the right.

Good point BB.
Bangdown - Last time I saw Irvine, Pelzel was not playing opposite. What position is he currently playing (opposite or outside)?
If he is playing outside than compare him to an outside instead of comparing him to a position he is not currently playing. I think Hillman has more experience (not age, experience) front row and back row hitting from the right this year. This is my opinion.

He has split time this season between OH and OPP. Remember that last year he got 1st team All-American as on opposite. Then you still say experience, Pelzel has been on the youth national team, the junior national, and just recently played on the would university games team.
