Just to pass time I suppose, but what would you all say would be some of the rivalries of the past and present that you either loved, despised, or just want to identify.
I'd like to know all the VOLLEYBALL rivalries....
Some of the ones that come to mind first is:
From the past:
UOP vs. Hawaii BYU vs. Hawaii LBSU vs. Hawaii UCSB vs. Hawaii
From the past until now/now:
UCLA vs. Hawaii USC vs. Hawaii Stanford vs. Hawaii USC vs. Hawaii USC vs. UCLA USCvs. Stanford Washington vs. USC Washington vs. Stanford Pepperdine vs. Santa Clara Florida vs. Tennessee
***I know some of these aren't really considered rivalries by most ppl's standards, but some of those matches are ones that really draw/drew eyes, and crowds, and some of the best matches in volleyball's history. Some of them esp. the Hawaii ones I guess (in the current) I would like to think they are rivalries due to the fact that those teams always seem to matchup at least once every other year.

Was BYU and Hawaii considered a rivalry? They had some good matches when both were in the WAC.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Ohio State Buckeyes especially 2004. Great rivalry--respect and sportsmanship on and off the court among players and fans.

I know, that's why I included the word "especially" so as to show I wasn't focusing on only one year. Read the whole post next time, thank you.

The Long Beach State-Hawaii rivalry tops my list.......some great matches back in old Klum Gym before the Stan Sheiff Center opened in 1994, also at the Pyramid in Long Beach.
Another great rivalry was UCLA-Stanford back in the 90's. So many great players contributed to that decade of phenomenal volleyball, from the days of Natalie Williams to Anette Buckner and Bev Oden to Carry Wendall.

Wisconsin-Penn State is always "the" match to see in Madison. What about Nebraska vs. Texas? It's pretty onesided but I think it'll be big rivalry to come.

Another one I'd throw in there is Penn State-Stanford. It was really only a 3 year thing, but during those 3 years they played 4 times and twice in national championships, and one of those title games was probably the best match I've ever seen as a volleyball fan.

BYU/Hawaii was a great rivalry when both in the WAC probably because there was no other competition other than those two. Now, BYU/Utah is very intense

Now, BYU/Utah is very intense This was only two years, because didn't BYU leave the WAC in 1998? That's true (well, actually 3 years--BYU was a WAC member from 1996-1998, for three seasons). I was actually surprised to see that the BYU vs. Hawaii all-time series is only 20 matches long. For the record, Hawaii leads the series 15-5. In comparison, the UCLA vs. Hawaii series record is 64 matches long, with Hawaii leading the series 34-30. Still, everytime someone mentions BYU, images of a certain 5 game thriller come to mind.
