Cook likes to play head games with his players. He does not want any player to feel comfortable with their position.
I am sure he floated the hype about Licht to keep Pavan uneasy and fired up. He does this with every player, no one is safe and secure no matter what the past accomplishments were.
Pavan and Licht are in two different stratospheres.

Yes, Pavan is notoriously lazy & un-motivated... I, too, nearly snorted milk out my nose reading the post above yours. Sarah by her own confession is the ultra Type A personality, I don't see any sign that she needs external pressure to develop her game.

I was wondering how many stratospheres exist in the Coluseum.

Cute----you are privy to the inner workings of Husker volleyball and have observed this first hand i'm sure. I agree on the Pavan/Licht comparison. Senior who's seen it all and been there/done that vs an incoming freshman who's international experience pales compared to what Pavans was coming in. I think the only incoming freshman you could hope to compare to the impact Pavan made as a freshman would be Alix Klineman at Stanford.

Usually I agree with you red....but...I also have been around volleyball for a very long time and I too compared Licht with Pavan. I don't know why it offends many of you that we compare the two. I watched Pavan play as a freshman and now Licht. Licht is a very impressive freshman. This reminds me of the Houghtelling, Pavan arguement when posters went on and on how fans that compared the two didn't know what they were talking about. It was the same year that Houghtelling won POY. In my opinion Houghtelling outplayed Sarah for that season. Give those of us who have watched LIcht perform some credit. Well now----that is certainly great to hear. I haven't SEEN Licht yet. If you say she's playing at a level that Pavan played at as an incoming freshman-----I'll take you at your word and click up my excitement level for a run at a repeat a couple of notches. This, along w/comments from Cook about both Coop and Stalls are extremely encouraging.

I assume Cook would not have recruited Licht unless he saw potential, Cook likes athletes who go through the Front Range club program. I have seen both Pavan and Licht play at different stages of there development and I do not see the comparisons. Licht has the basic volleyball skill levels but she does not have the athleticism, at times she seems slow and awkward, maybe she will get the confidence I just don’t see the Pavan likeness. Pavan was weaned on volleyball and has played at a very high international level for many years, Licht started her volleyball development at Front Range, she has club and high school experience, we are comparing a thoroughbred to a pony.

Sorry....again I do not agree. I remember Pavan as a freshman and like LIcht she could terminate but other skills needed polishing. Very similar to Licht. She was hitting quicks, swings, and free balls and was able to make a tough hit out of fluff . I see the need for conditioning but to describe her as slow and awkward is not at all what I saw. You are obviously very comfortable with your opinion in Licht as I am in mine. Sometimes a pony turns into a throughbred.

I will be the first to apologize and retract my opinion, wipe the egg from my face, tuck my tail between my legs…If you expect Licht to measure up to Pavan you are going to be very disappointed. Licht will have her moments it will just not be sustainable.

Licht is no Pavan. The only comparison you can make is that they are both 6'5" and left handed. The comparisons stop there. Athletically, Licht has a very long way to go before she can compare to Pavan and quite frankly, she just isn't the same athlete that Pavan is. Sounds like Nebraska fans are already trying to prepare for Pavan's graduation by trying to annoint this kid the heir apparent. You are only setting yourself up for dissapointment. If she was anywhere near Pavan's ability, she would already be on the national team. Heck, she's not even the best of Nebraska's 07 recruits.
