roy and eov - I guess I agree with you guys IF and only if Nebraska sticks with a 5-1... but if Nebraska reverts back to a 6-2(per some articles, that may be the case), does it really matter what height the setter is (given she jumps high enough on her jump sets to be a dump threat)? If they're running a 6-2, setters can't dump since it'd be a backrow attack.

Assuming a 6-2 with the setter always in the back row, then height isn't a factor. Also remember that she won't be able to dump the ball at all as she is a back row player. But as a coach, it becomes very dangerous to assume you are recruiting a setter with the intention of using her in a 6-2 for all 4 years. If something happens to the second setter or for some reason the system doesn’t work as you want it to, you are stuck with a setter that might not fit your system in a 5-1.

doh! it's too far outta the season, i totally whiffed on the dumping thing... well, like, I was thinking that she would, like, totally long jump out of the backrow and, like, fake a set and dump it over, it'd work!!
okie dokie, i'm an idiot.

Actually it does make a difference in their ability to play above the net even if they are running a 6-2. Setters that can get up and set balls that would otherwise go over the net are a big advantage.

Very true. I've often seen tall unathletic setters be unable to do this, but your 5' 8" athletic version is capable. Very often the tall lumbering ones aren't even close enough to attempt it. I dislike the new rule that the setter can't break the plane. It takes away from the fan the joy of watching an incredible athlete make a sweet set in that instance. roy and eov - I guess I agree with you guys IF and only if Nebraska sticks with a 5-1... but if Nebraska reverts back to a 6-2(per some articles, that may be the case), does it really matter what height the setter is (given she jumps high enough on her jump sets to be a dump threat)? Maybe I missed this. Did Nebraska sign or get a commitment from a setter yet for the '08 class? I had heard they were looking at some stud from Sports Performance but that was just on here. Thanks! As far as 2008 goes, they don't yet have a setter committed. Jordan Haverly, OH 6-1 Cherry Valley, IL Kaitlynn James, OH 5-11 Louisville, KY Allison McNeal , MB/OH 6-3 Schulenburg, TX That should leave Huskers with 1 scholarship left for 2008 with Stalls, Pavan, Houghtelling, Griffin graduating this year (if Griffin is on scholarship).
