The USA womens team is in complete dissaray. JLP has little or no presence figuratively or literally. Communication is a disaster. Veterans can't relate with staff, rookies have no idea where they stand. This is a disaster for Doug Beal, but he made his bed! Your comments reminded me of volleyball fans way, way, way back in the early to mid-70's were griping at how the team and the federation(USVBA, that's what it was called back then) the men's and women's team. When Arie Selinger became the head coach for the women's team the fans were still complaining(mainly because of his training methods and here not too long ago several Volley Talk members were shocked when they how former coach Toshi was doing a grueling passing/defense drill with Stacy Sykora) and once they started winning with Flo Hyman, DEBBIE GREEN, Rita Crockett and PAULA WEISHOFF and company the pessimistic attitude changed drastically. Ever since Selinger left the women's national teams has been up, down and at best mediocre. I still support and cheer both U.S. national teams and I hope to see our women's team in Peking. Remember not too many people thought we had a chance of getting into the '88 Olympics but we managed to qualify for that Olympics with inexperienced players that was constantly being unfairly compared to the U.S. team(Hyman, Green, Weishoff, etc.) that preceded them.

I don't know what's going on there between JLP and the veteran players. But I know that Sue is hired because JLP just had her knee surgery and can't stand for over two hours straight on the court. She need a helping hand there, especially who's good at training the young players.
As for the program, I think one can't expect too much simply because we don't have enough good players. Comparing this team with the Athen's one and speaking of players on each position, Haneef is at most on par with Phipps, while Logan's leave just took half of the team away. In the middles, while Bown is at her best, Scott is far from her prime time. Metcalf is still good, but what about the setters? And libero, when you used to have Sykora covering half of the court? Speaking of these, you understand that many European teams have improved a lot since Athens.
As for the young players, I don't know if you guys have been following the international news but the best, like Barbozza and Larson, still have a long way to go even to earn a spot on the court. With limited training time (the Chines team has 4 months' training, 8hrs/day), they need to pay extra effort to catch up with their foreign peers.
