I think it is cool but my initial reaction was like....Is this a marketing ad for the rainbow wahine volleyball team? I mean - I agree with a lot on this thread. It isn't a good way to represent the team. I am a very dedicated fan but I felt like they were using us in some way - it's kind of weird. I can be weird. I do think Hittle is hilarious. Maybe I would have felt more comfortable if they included the whole team on their shoots. I would have loved to see sanders on there and houston. I guess maybe houstons away right now for nationals.......

I don't think it is any kind of official representation of the team/school. Ah college days...

While the content of the video isn't incriminating in anyway I still find it a poor reflection of the Wahine team. Yes they are college students, yes they are just having a good time, but the fact that they are on full scholarships paid for by the University of Hawaii and the fact they are student athletes representing the institution means that they are and should be held to a higher standard very different from the average college student posting videos on youtube. The fact that there is a 2 page thread about the videos is proof of the impact of something considered to be "funny"

I agree and certainly did my share of knuckle headed things in college. The issue here is these are pretty high profile kids in a high profile program. The song itself has excessive use of the N word, and like a lot of rap, misogynistic. Seeing them sing the lyric "put a look on my face like I smelled some piss" is less than becoming. If it were my daughter I would say "listen you're a good kid, and I know your just having fun, but there are a lot of creeps out there, and this is not a very flattering way of representing yourself or the people you associate with" I'm sure if you sent it to Shoji or someone in the administration, that video would be down fast. It is typical decision making of college kids, not very smart.

I'm sorry but this is atrocious. This is MTV (which is pathetic) but on a low string, if not no string budget. Why would they do this? I think it is embarrassing.

as long as they are having fun, not hurting anyone and not doing anything illegal - i don't see anything for them to be embarrassed of -- besides - i like seeing their form of bonding

I recognize it is innocent in nature, and I am sure they are good people, it just hate that MTV culture for girls, Lindsay Lohan etc..... Having fun, boofing around is great, but videotaping it, putting on the web? When does this ever end well? ladeda, I believe this is a forum to express opinion, therefore your approval/caring of my opinion, is not an issue.

I understand that this may offend the delicate and archaic sensibilities of some who believe this is inappropriate "for girls" and an atrocity (!) but since they are having fun and not hurting or bothering anyone, it would appear that the sanctimonious people who are quick to judge others are the ones with the problem. Oh well...

It matters not (to me) what impact these videos have on the Wahine volleyball program because, as you say, they're just young girls having fun and not hurting anybody. That's fine. What DOES matter to me is the scary (and upsetting) dance moves by Tara and co. It offends my finer sensibilities, frankly. These are not acceptable "moves" commonly found in dance halls of Victorian English times. I am speaking, of course, to dances like the waltz and the contredanse, all in step to the most popular music from Brahms, Mozart, Schubert, or Haydn. It would not harm their "street cred" one bit if Tara and co. learned a few steps from the latter more acceptable dance styles of the 19th century .

By atrocious I meant awful. Not morally wrong, suspect or anything like that, just really bad. I still think it portrays them in a "party girl" light, but as I said innocent, but no mistake about it, its really bad.

What really looks bad is those photos of your home girl running around the dorm half naked and in a drunken stupor. One of your football players has them on his Myspace .com site.
