Kimo Tuyay, a senior captain on this year's Hawaii men's volleyball team and a starter on the 2002 national championship squad, has been named grand marshal of the 12th annual Western Union Filipino Fiesta. A parade and festival will take place May 22 at Ala Moana Park and Kapiolani Park.
Tuyay is a former student worker at FilCom, the Filipino Community Center. He will join the Philippine national team in June.

Does this mean Tuyay is going to playing for the Philippine's "Volleyball" National team? If so, how does that work when I thought he was an American citizen?

I think the reporter may have gotten mixed up. The Philiipines doesn't have a national governing body registered under the FIVB (USAV is the USA's governing body for the sport), and they don't have national teams that compete in the FIVB. At least none that show up on the radar of the FIVB website.
Maybe Tuyay is getting a tryout with the USA National Team in June. Just a guess.

Kimo Tuyay (Hawaii), Ryan Woodward (Hawaii) and Justin Schoor (Loyola) will play for the Philippines in a 9 country tournament in Fukuoka, Japan in June. They all have Pilipino ancestry. Tuyay and Schoor has dual citizenship (similar to Eyal Zmet's double citizenship). Justin and Kimo may team up and play the Asian Pro Beach Circuit. They are expected to participate in the the SEASIAN Games in 2005, and the ASIAN GAMES IN 2006.

AY SOS, DAT ONE!
Hehe.
EDIT: We had lots of Filipino neighbors growing up, so we kept a close eye on our family dog. We had Chinese neighbors, too, but we didn't own any cats. LOL.
