Just because this thread was started by "pactenfan" does not necessarily mean the libero in question is from a Pac-10 team.

Oops...yes. I missed that part.
Never mind.
(but it could still be a diversionary tactic to conceal identities)

The original poster made a late post Mon nite regarding the Ky/AZ match. So AZ is the school referred to in this post. Unfortunate. Referring to the coach as a psycho even by other fans' opinions, on this board, is not likely to endear the libero to the coach....for future court time.....and it does sound like a relative posting.....let's hope these coaches don't have time to read VT....altho that may be false hope.

I can think of a couple reasons in addition to ones mentioned:
a) Fans and parents really never know the behavior of a team and players. There could be things going on behind the scenes that we don't know about.
b) Players who lead in number of errors are also the players who lead in number of attempts. I've had players who had very few errors as defensive players because, well, they only covered about 1 foot of space. They passed every ball that came right to them perfectly, just don't ask them to actually move anywhere.
Obviously, no Pac10 players would be that bad, but the coach could feel that the new libero covers more ground and makes more plays. Or, along the same line, perhaps feels that the new libero communicates better and creates better on-court chemistry.
Stats never tell the whole story.

I bet Rubio's on here all the time. Gonzales is too busy working on his next opus for PrepVolleyball.com about how the rest of us "just don't get it" when it comes to training athletes...

Isn't use of the casting couch one of the perks of the job?

I'll bet all college coaches think it's important, but the real question "should the number of reception errors determine who plays?". RE's are just one part of the equation. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that every other pass the player makes is perfect and allows the setter to run all of their offensive options. Then you might be willing to accept a few more errors (lost points) because you will side out more frequently (win points). Exactly. Pavan and Larson both have more service errors than Stalls, Holloway, Houghtelling, or Mueller, but they also between the two of them have more aces than all the other servers combined.

If it is Zona, whatever the change, it seemed to work as they handled some good teams and came away with the win. I would also think it was developing depth for the Pac 10 season. If any player on any team wants their spot back, the best way to earn it is to be a team player and supportive of any player on the floor. When the team's winning, how can you complain?

Not that this matters at all in this discussion, but from the box scores it looks like AZ is starting a former OH at libero now, not either of the 2 liberos listed on the roster.

ttIS IS THE MOTHER OF THE LIBERO IN MENTION. The first time I heard of Volleytalk was yesterday when a friend introduced me to it because she had read something she thought might interest me. THIS MATTER IS BETWEEN THE COACH AND MY DAUGHTER, KATIE IF YOU'D LIKE TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

Sorry, I sent the message before I was finished. I'm new to this. This is not Katies view on the matter. She supports all decisions Dave Rubio makes and roots on every member of the team. Hes a great coach and knows what hes doing.

I am really confused with changes in defense a coach has made lately. 1st Libero of season was doing great.....broke three school records in one weekend.....all of a sudden coach decides that a New libero is needed after a loss against a pretty good team........Names a new libero. Now this defensive player (new libero) had the most receive errors in the match that they lost. In fact new libero leads the whole conference in receive errors thus far this season, other stats aren't that great either. I am so confused.....why would a coach do this? I am simply a volleyball fan of the school and I hate to see the team compromised. Am I missing the boat or does everyone award the special jersey to the player with the most errors? Tonight is the first night I've read through this thread. What kind of assinine first post is this? Its not like we can't figure out who it is, and the nature of folks on this board to know things like this. You'd be far better going off on the coach than to bring in the players and the parents to the mess. At least the coach is paid to take a bit of knocks. And its not like this coach is sitting high and mighty on top of some pedestal but he knows more about volleyball than all of you and your AZ fans put together. Let off on the rumor mills and maybe ask him.

Don't worry bigfan, I am not scared. I plan to stay on the board and call it like I see it. Wizard of ID, I am sorry that you need to resort to name calling, and that is my response to you. Please don't attack fans as they are important to the sport. Your post made me laugh. You can continue to call me names if it makes you feel better. Eastivball thanks for the sensible feedback, your post actually made some sense. Boy, my original post hit some nerves that was not the intention. I was searching for reasonable and logical explanations to something that was based on facts/statistics.
