Whilst I agree with most points - i'm still going to wait a bit to draw any conclusions...
We at LBSU are obviously slumping to our standards...
However, i'm still not ready to make any solid conclusions...
Our current problems mostly stem from 1) recruiting too many projects
2) injuries
However, we still have a blue chipper in Alexis Crimes - and we had a monster team just a few years ago... (is it safe to note that most other Big West schools don't get "blue chippers"? )
Misty May's memory is still fresh in everyone's minds (she's still kickin a**, isn't she?)
That said, we're slumping, but i'm not ready to make the conclusion that it's all about the landscape changing completely...
Besides, in the 1990's, USC, a huge football school, was doing well right? UCLA, a BCS school, was doing good right? Nebraska, a HUGE football school was doing good right? Stanford, a PAC-10 school was doing well, right? Penn State, a school in a "Major" conference went up against LBSU in 1998 right?
My point is, those schools had those resources back then too...
I think it's too early to make any conclusions... We may be back... Even if we do have to wait for Misty May to become the coach (which she said she'd like to do)...
LB State is a known VB school - we haven't quite shaken that yet... In a slump, yes indeed... But those banners aren't quite in the closet yet...

Surfin D Beach: One of the "projects" LBSU recruited was Stephanie Tokarz from Wichita. She redshirted at LBSU and then returned to Wichita. I'm not sure I would call her a failure since she is #67 on the current list of Division 1 Hitting Percentage (Through Games 09/30/2007) and was named to the 2006 All-Freshmen Team in the Missouri Valley Conference. My impression is that you don't like recruiting "projects" and I wanted to offer Stephanie as an example that they can become good players. (BTW: WSU's Sara Lungren was a complete project who became the 2006 MVC Volleyball Player of the Year (& honorable mention all-region) as a junior. Her high school in Kansas was in division 1A (=smallest schools) and probably had fewer than 100 students.) ADDED: THis is not to say LBSU fans didn't appreciate Stephanie. On VT,Beachman wrote: " Stephanie was nowhere ready to start for us last year although she showed great promise......had some physical things going on but more than that she just wanted to return home as she felt a little overwhelmed by the big city atmosphere....she was a great kid and all of the players really liked her. She could be a very solid player at just about any good program.....had some very solid training, I might add, last year at LBS and I am sure that she would make that comment if asked too!" volleytalk.proboards88.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1156705863&page=2

I'm not saying projects in general - in fact, we're known for taking "projects" and making them into superstars...
Tayyiba Haneef - perfect example. She's a basketball player by nature...
Kerri Nishimoto was a DS - she became an All-American setter...
There are plenty more...
My point was not that I don't like "projects" - Brian and staff have made projects into stars...
The problem right now is that we have too many projects developing at once - when what we need is a solid, consistent supporting cast for Vargas' setting, and ALEXIS CRIMES. Put a couple more well-tuned beasts around them, and you have a team ready for a deep run...
