Yes she is redshirting. She is also learning quite a bit about how D1 college volleyball differs from Club and high school. Everyone is bigger, better, faster ect. This year should really help her in securing playing time in 2008.

Besides Murphy, who else is going to Florida next year? Could Florida's recruiting class be the best for 2008? Looks like they may be a big threat next year! I doubt it. Going by the Prepvolleyball.com top 100 list Florida is getting #26 Betsy Smith, #17 Cassandra Anderson & #1 Kelly Murphy for recruits. The only other team I have really looked at who they have coming in is Nebraska with #20 Jordan Haverly, #13 Kaitlynn James, & #4 Allison McNeal. Taking those #'s for each then NU averages 12.33 for their recruits while Florida averages 14.67 for their recruits. If they land Ward, and the chances of that happening are very good, then Florida will easily have the top class for 08.

but without any scholarships left, can they get ward? not sure if she would be willing to walk on for a year and then get the scholarship. i guess that all depends on her situation

A couple of other FL fans have confirmed that on here. Florida has 5 recruits already for 08 and only 4 seniors. 08 recruits are MB Cassandra Anerson, S Cindy Bathelt, OH Kristy Jaeckel, S/RS Kelly Murphy and MB/OH Betsy Smith. Is there 1 or 2 walk ons perhaps?

Don't be surprised to see a transfer or a current scholarship player pay their own way next year.

Regarding not liking current players, I agree with Chance. Many of us believe Wise sacrificed the 2004 season because of promises made during recruitment and we have been waiting for the great payoff ever since. Unfortunately after THE 2004 DECISION, the Gators have lost the dominance they showed in 2002 and 2003. I still have hope for this year except I remain unconvinced that the coaches really know what it takes to be at the ultimate #1 level. I hope I am wrong. As far as the freshman being better than the seniors----I do not believe it. The college game is much more advanced even in the SEC.

FLA loses an outside, right side, setter, and middle right? That would be a lot of freshman better than their predecessors for them to be better, unlikely, but if the also get Ward, they will be fun to watch.

Jaeckel is already on scholarship. She's not paying her own way just cause she's redshirting.
The point is, they have room for Ward if that's what she decides.

Jaekel is redshirting and has a scholarship. There are 14 on the team this season with 2 walk-ons. 4 seniors are leaving so there are 4 scholarships for 2008. I don't know who has an 08 scholarship offer, but I believe all four recruits do. If so UF is out of 08 scholarships.

There are 5 scholarships for 2008. Kristy Jaeckel is using Kari Klinkenberg's last year this year while redshirting. All 5 will be on scholarship next year.

I believe it is simple math. 12 UF players are on scholarship for the 07 season. 4 Seniors are leaving, that leaves 8 scholarship athletes. There should only be 4 scholarships left for 08. It doesn't matter who the open scholarship comes from, there are only 12 total scholarships for D1 volleyball. Unless UF is planning to pull a scholarship from one of the 8 current ,or one of the 4 08 recruits does not have a scholarship offer, there are only 4 scholarships for 08.
