15-9 UW. TO OSU. Although I appreciate the video/sound, it's a little annoying when it breaks up. Cool. No commercials. (knock wood)

20-12 UW. 2nd OSU TO. sro, why am I watching this train wreck? When OSU isn't getting blocked (at least 5 so far), they're passing like they have one arm.

Just got home from Huff where UI took 2 games from PSU. If UW and PSU both play at the levels you did here UW will win in 3. I was very impressed with UW consistantly high level of team play. PSU has some truely awsome physical talent but were very inconsistent in their level of play.

I didn't mention the 2004 match because the Buckeyes were better than the Badgers then, so it wasn't an upset, like this would have been. I remember that match; I got to see both of the POY winners torch the Badgers that year. Gordon was great all around, as per usual.
As for tonight's match, I think the Badgers played well in some areas but will need to improve to beat a PSU team that I am sure will play better than they did at Illinois tonight (another five game loss has to hurt for Illini fans). The Badgers blocked well tonight and did a great job of containing Meyer. They also served tough, which was big. On the other hand, the Buckeyes had some nice digs but didn't play very well. Their passing was awful in the first game, which accounted for the lopsided margin in that one. It was better after that, but there was really only one way to go. Of course, they shanked a JWack serve for match point.
Ohio State just doesn't look good at this point. They played a 6-2 tonight in game one, with Dozier right side and McCarthy setting back row and playing right side. Dozier didn't do much, though, so she didn't play after the first game. I think they went back to the 5-1 after that. At any rate, the Buckeyes had a lot of ball control issues and got called for five double hits (seemed like more). They really need to establish a setter, although Misty May couldn't have done much with their passing in game one and occasional uncontrolled digs through the match. They really miss Main a lot. I also don't know why Stone hasn't been able to find a consistently good libero. That hurts them. Stevens played outside tonight and didn't look like the same player, lacking heat on her attacks and not using the jump serve. She might be hurt, as some have guessed here. Dull can at least bring some heat, but she faced a lot of double blocks. The three blocks that ohiostatetad bemoaned were all on off plays, if memory serves. Calhoun played middle, where she gives up a lot of size. She hits the kind of stuff that Britenriker did, but it is hard to get the timing on that down in a couple of weeks. Also, Jeffers had a great solo block on her early. McCarthy had some nice kills but wasn't able to go off like she did last year in Columbus. Szerszen was wearing a boot, so that isn't a good sign. I think the Buckeyes would be better if she were playing. Still, there just seem to be a lot of issues there, so I am not seeing a big turnaround like last year, although they might pull an upset if they can pass better. It is too bad for their seniors to go out that way.
I thought the Badgers passed well in game one and okay in the third game. In the second game, the Buckeyes served effectively and got them out of system a lot. It wasn't the best offensive performance from the Badgers, who had too many truly unforced hitting errors. Dolgner mi%*$# a few balls to bring down her percentage. Still, she had 17 kills when she didn't get too many sets in system while in the front row. One of them faced the Buckeye libero on game point in game two. That had to hurt, figuratively and literally. Jeffers was really effective hitting over the Buckeye middles, especially Calhoun, on sets to the middle. She really unloaded on some balls, which is a good sign. Dykstra also was effective when she got good sets. Simpson had a solid, but not great, match. She did have one bump set from the right back corner over her shoulder that somehow ended up as a hittable ball for AWack, who then either hit it into the net or got blocked (it was that kind of night at times for the Badgers). The back row play was okay. Mills served a huge run that gave the Badgers control of game three, picking up a couple of tips in the process. Berkley had the play of the night with a diving one arm dig. Simpson had a nice match defensively and on the block.
Finally, JWack set the career dig mark at Wisconsin tonight. She isn't the most flashy libero you will find, but she is effective and has really turned the position into a strength for the Badgers over the course of her career.
I hope the Badgers can cut down the unforced errors and do a better job of digging hard hit balls against PSU on sunday. I know I have really high expectations for this team, but I think they can play even better and that they will need to do so to beat PSU.
