Is UH looking at an Israeli setter for 2004? Who are the prime candidates for 2003? Who will set when Kimo is gone? Does anyone know?

If the player from Israel is Yuval Katz's younger brother as the setter from Israel that you are referring to, I think it didn't pan out. Not sure when I read that. Last year maybe?

[glow=blue,2,300]I think the setter from Israel is Eyal Faival who is in the army right now or something like that, Hawaii is also recruiting Brian Beckwith and Joe Klein, per rollshot[/glow]

Come to the Block Party this Saturday at SSC...sounds like it'll be a lot of fun with celebrity coaches, prizes etc....more fanfare than in the past. Maybe one day it'll be as big as Midnight Ohana for the Bball teams! Only $5 general admission and it's for a good cause.

Now to get a group of folks to come along with me for this sounds like fun.

Hawaii would be very very wise to go after this kid from the East. From what I understand he is a nasty competitor with unbelievable ahtletic and body control.
Hawaii is very well suited for an excitable jumper like this kid. FIRE! Lacks respect...and thrives on that.
Beckwith, yes has alot of tools and some say has National teams Potential...but he is quiet, a bit slow and very structured in his approach to game.
Look at who Hawaii has won with....many player..not all...but may who were overlooked by major programs...but they are all great athletes and burn inside to win.
The talk is that this kid is that type of player. What does Klein touch? Is he a good student?

From the article, it sounds like the kid is smart. But isn't he waaaay too far away from Hawaii? I'd go with Beckwith - he's taller and a California boy so she's a lot closer. Who knows what Wilton is looking for or which setters he's looking at.

Next year is an excellent time to bring in a setter and an excellent opportunity for any recruit to come into a major vb program. As an understudy to Kimo, the new recruit will be able to learn and develop under a veteran setter and inherit a team that will always continue to reload with talent. I don't think there are many setters in country who could have handled the pressures Kimo experienced as an 18 year old true freshman - taking Hawaii to one game away from the Final Four. Then as a 19 year old winning the Whole Thing in 2002. Finishing 3rd and 1st Nationally is not bad in your first two years of collegiate vb. Kimo is that special player. Hopefully, Wilton will recruit the right setter. Bookumdanoaloha.

Didn't a kid from out east come and play middle for Hawaii? Foost or something. Too far away? Israel, Croatia, Greece....enough said. I too agree that you must factor in but Wilton and Coaches of his caliber are known for looking at many factors in a kid before they fall back on the obvious. I'm going to do some homework on this...and be back. Your are wirte that Kimo must be replaced in 2 years....better get the best athelete in asap. Later

I think we all know that Beckwith is Signed/Sealed at Hawaii. A quality pick up!
The Klein kid not sure of but rumor is that he is the top 2 for the Youth National team (not sure how that can be as he is a Senior) and is being looked at USC (desperately need this position filled) , Northridge, UCI, Ball state, PSU, BYU and Mason.
At all of those programs he would be a backup/redshirt for a year or two except for USC.
But is there $$ still out there for kids?
Regardless, whoever gets this kid they are getting a steal. I saw him play at the MLK tourney in Jan. Impressive athlete and rips the jumper.
There are a few quality players still unsigned out there and the College teams are still evaluating their needs.

Who will set when Kimo is gone? Does anyone know? As of now, I do believe once Tuyay is gone, it will be a toss up between the California high school player Rollshot did an interview on and Daniel Rasay, for Rasay is currently a Soph. for UH.
