this year freshman Francisco Valdez (dominican player from the national team) has signed yesterday the lbsu scholarship papers. he is a 6'5 experienced player, 2nd all star of the us open (atlanta 04). and has compited with the youth, junior and senior in several norcecas and world championships. as i could see, he is a very talented player that can take lbsu in a great level. opposite hitter, slim but agressive spiker. hope to see ya around kid, as you once told me, "im going to make it to go to the USA to play" well boy, you are a step away from here. i hope you keep up the good work and wish you good luck. guys, this player is such a good human been. he plays with heart and off court, such a gentleman. lets give him a warm welcome to the states and hope other dominicans can join our volleyball programs. we have victor batista in byu. now francisco valdez with lbsu, lets see if we get couple more out here.

Well, I guess now the LBSU staff can't whine about foreigners in the mix messing up the college game in the US.
And, in a "turnabout is fair play" mode, I guess the rest of the league can start looking into this guy's amateur status, and then spring any poop they find on the NCAA, if LBSU so happens to win a championship while this guy is on the roster.
;D

Hawaii fans and players all know that it was a former Long Beach State (C.S) player who ratted on Costas regarding his eligibility. I for one will be watching and researching this foreign player at Long Beach State. And I will Bookum if he is illegal. Bookumdanoaloha

As of this morning, he hasn't been to a practice yet - so this is still rumor to my knowledge. I didn't ask a coach about it, so it could be true and he just hasn't done everything necessary to be allowed to practice yet....?
We'll see.
I had heard a rumor over the summer that a Cuban was coming to UCLA. Did that happen?

Why is everyone in an uproar over Valdez? LBSU had an international player on the roster last year > Thiago Barbosa from Brazil. So IF LBSU does indeed add Valdez to its lineup, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

So IF LBSU does indeed add Valdez to its lineup, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. 1. He isn't that good, so nobody cares about a foreigner if he's not an impact player. If he were good, he'd start right away, like Meyer or Theocharidis or Contreras or Katz. 2. He transferred from USC, so it isn't like LBSU actually went out and recruited him.

Since the signing period isn't until November it would be a little tough to have him in practice right now wouldn't it? For the record, he is not in practice, is not on the team(yet), but he is being recruited by LBS!

If he already graduated from high school, it doesn't matter when the signing period is does it? I don't know, I'm asking.

I think that you may be right on that one....if he has already graduated from HS it shouldn't make any difference re: the signing period. I am sure that he would not be signing a grant in aid until he has met the admission standards, which all has to be cleared by the schools compliance person, Mary Ann Tripodi!

Hey VBallmom.
Such a "Stickler for Detail". You're the Best. You must be some compliance officer for some Fortune 500 Company.
What's my Boy David Lee up to?
Bookum.

David Lee and Scott Touzinsky played pro (separate teams) in Puerto Rico over the summer. I hear they're back home now - haven't heard any more on them.

I'll have to ask about David - I think he is taking some classes right now. Scott came back to take some classes this fall too, but then he got an offer from a team in Athens. He will be leaving soon. LBSU said that he could take three of his classes online and then come back next summer to take his last one. Pretty cool!
As far as being a stickler for detail - I work in the environmental field as a compliance person, so detail can be important in that regard.

correct me if im wrong, but as I understand it he can give a verbal commitment prior to the early signing date, but no scholarship paperwork can be signed prior to that.
