Oh, yeah. A college professor. There's someone who is in touch with the real world. As in touch as GWB cutting the combat pay for the military folks in Iaq? I guess I'd be expecting that in a war situation, if anything, you'd be increasing their pay rather than cutting it. I guess that's what you get from a president that avoided Vietnam, was allegdedly AWOL while avoiding the war, and the only documents that could have proven he was or wasn't AWOL were recently conveniently "accidentally" destroyed. Its amazing how many such coincidences, miscommunications, and general blunders "accidentally" happen under the GWB administration.

Actually, the Pentagon was the first to float the idea of cutting imminent danger pay and family separation allowances. The Bush Administration first supported the Pentagon's decision, then quickly backpedaled once the story was leaked to the Army Times and the ground swell started building. Definetely a political embarassment for Bush. For the most part, though, the last two administrations (Bush #43 and Clinton) have done well in increasing military pay raises. For a long time annual pay raises in the military did not keep pace with inflation. I actually had a couple young troops working for me who were on food stamps - young couples usually with 2 or 3 kids and less than 2 years total time in service.

The people in our military deserve better than that, as do the people in our law enforcement, and public education systems.

A Democrat "flip-flops", a Republican "backpedals". Starting pay for both teachers and corrections officers in California is usually less than 30k/year. Santa Barbara County Sheriffs do pretty good though, I think they start between 45-50k, or something like that.

So add corrections officers to my list of those that deserve better.
I wasn't trying to present a single all encompassing list.
Is backpedal another term for fibbing?

Corrections officers usually fall under that umbrella.
