Short Story by John Cheever. New Yorker favorite. A cold and selfish man is followed by a woman from his past. Flashbacks reveal how cold and selfish he can be. An exchange of words and bodily fluids in the subway and then, it ends. Okay, Cheever writes well, though his endings leave something to be desired and some passages are painfully awkward.
