Well, I finally saw the final episode today. Very bizarre. And it's not true that "The Sopranos" series was shown from the point-of-view of Tony Soprano alone. Many many many episodes show many many scenes where Tony is not involved. There was a lot of tension built up around that diner scene, especially with skanky Meadow trying to parallel park. I know anything can happen, but who would set up a hit against Tony? All is pretty much settled.
And why Journey's "Don't Stop Believing"? It does crescendo bit by bit and perhaps that's what the director was looking for.
I laughed so hard when Phil Leotardo got his head scrunched by the SUV. Maaan, that was sweet...in a disgusting sort of way. By the way, I'm against violence on TV.

"The West Wing" and "The Sopranos" -- two of my favorite shows on DVD.
"24" is a guilty pleasure.

Your next venture should be to watch The Wire. Best show on tv by far.

My only disappointment was that Meadow and AJ were never whacked. They were, without question, the most annoying brother-sister combo in TV history.

Unless, of course, they _did_ get whacked.
A question about The Wire. Do I just jump in now? Or do I need to watch the other seasons first?

"The Sopranos" must be the ONLY show in history which I can say had no likable/sympathetic characters, major or minor, and yet, still rocked. Well, Bobby Bacalieri was okay in that he reminded me of a poor stray dog who needed a home. Felt sorry for him. A reasonably decent guy who made his choice to join the mafia. But even he was borderline to me. They're all frikkin' sociopaths.

While each season does have a new theme, I'd recommend starting from the beginning. It's a complex show that requires you to pay attention and really be in on it from the start. I think it's a show that was made for DVD where you can go through a season in a few days. I know the 1st 4 seasons are out on DVD, and season 5 just started last week. Everyone I know that watches the show just loves it.

It says something for a show to be that popular and last that long, and yet not have many likable characters, especially the lead. Same goes for the Shield and Dexter. I mean, these are bad guys, yet we watch and at times, we can sympathize with them even when they've just done something so awful. The Wire has a lot of bad characters, and yet I find them the most fascinating. Even the good guys on that show are flawed.

Carmela belongs to one class of women I loathe -- the high maintenance superficial wife-in-denial with a Brooklyn/Joysey accent. (whatever that accent is)

I really liked her, though I wish she had more moments like she did in Whitecaps when she finally stood up to Tony. Too bad it didn't last. I guess when you grow accustomed to living a certain life, you will overlook a lot. Even with her being mostly spineless and superficial, I still liked her character. She was at her best in the hospital when Tony was shot.

Paulie was a great character.
I still say the show was a comedy.

Well, it was certainly funnier than a lot of "real" comedies. "The West Wing" was very very funny, too.
Paulie was a #$%*.
Through it all, I'm quite surprised Uncle Junior (Corrado) made it through all 6 seasons, even till the very last episode. If there was anyone who should've kicked the bucket before the show's end, it was him.

One aspect of the show that bothered me a lot was the carefree, almost reckless, way it treated many of the innocent characters. The producers and writers don't seem to give a frick about them and used them as tools to show the brutality and sociopathic nature of the Italian mob members. I'm talking about them beating up on messengers, killing off Tim Daly, other innocent bystanders, the way Vito shot and killed the guy up in New England after a fender-bender, the stripper at the Bing, etc. There were LOTS of batteries and murders of innocent victims.
I don't mind them beating up each other. After all, they're all wack-job nutcases who all belong in prison anyway. For example, I loved the scene where Tony beat the crap out of Coco. (How could Coco survive that stomp?) or Christopher shoving that guy out of the window for stealing power tools from his father-in-law. Loved those.
But I couldn't take their treatment of innocent people.

I can't believe they are still defending the ending. It's very poorly done, whatever it meant.
My guess? Chase didn't have a good ending so he just said what the heck. It does NOT hold together if it was supposed to be Tony's POV. And then kapowey.
