C'mon folks...give China some slack. It is the land of fakes and copies, so why should this be a surprise?
I heard The Monkees lip synched at their concerts. Ashlee Simpson did it on Saturday Night Live.
Ooh...I saw right before the opening ceremony with Jackie Chan singing "We Are Ready", and I swear he was lip synching then as well!

Besides, there are other more pertinent things to bash China for. The imprisonment of dissidents before the Olympics, the air pollution in Beijing possibly harming the athlete's health, the forced buying off of the dead school children's parents in Chung xing so that they don't protest during the Olympics. The worst offense is the enforcement of curfews and strong arm tactics to keep people away from the bars in Beijing during the Olympics. No alcohol for two weeks. That's just crazy.

From the New York Times www.nytimes.com/2008/08/11/sports/olympics/11olympics.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=make%20believe%20Olympics&st=cse&oref=slogin"All Olympics are a little unnatural, of course: they are biennial intervals of make-believe when the world pretends to be a happier and friendlier place." And everybody does it. I remember I read somewhere Salt Lake City shipped its homeless people out of town during the 2002 Winter Games. And for the 2006 Turin closing ceremony Luciano Pavarotti's performance was prerecorded (but at least it was his own voice, unlike the Chinese girl). But I wonder what this will do to the self-esteem of the little girl who actually sang the song in Beijing when people tell her she wasn't cute enough appear in the ceremony.

And all women who wear makeup are fakes and liars and certainly guilty of misrepresentation. And all men who wear lifts...oy vei...you know who you are.

How about the one who appeared but will have people telling her she can't really sing?

Hey, guys. Natalie Wood didn't really sing in "West Side Story." Also, the kids in "The Sound of Music"...those weren't their voices in the group songs. The singing voice work for Debbie Reynolds in "Singin' in the Rain" was done by Jean Hagen, the actress who played Lena in the same movie. And Lena's voice was supposedly done by the Debbie Reynolds character. How's THAT for irony!!

Same person dubbed Hepburn in My Fair Lady.
Oddly enough, it was Pat Nixon.

Here are the facts: Natalie Wood's part in West Side Story was sung by Marni Nixon who also sang for Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady (hello-Julie Andrews was available), who also sang for the Reverend Mother in Sound of Music. Marni Nixon played Sister Marta in Sound of Music (sang the line "She's an angel" in How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria). I know, more information than you wanted. Don't get me started on the show "Wicked".

you HAVE copies of the Sound of Music?!?! Of course, doesn't EVERYONE!? I saw the show 75 times in the theater (it played for 3 years at the Fox Theater in downtown Phoenix). Probably seen it over 200 times since Video/DVD came out. Even did the Sound of Music bus tour in Salzburg. Pathetic, I know.
