Gawd, I love it when the GFW is down...faster posting.
Took me awhile to find it but now watching China vs Japan on CCTV3. China squeaked out set 1 26-24. Should be a close one....and hate to say this but I hope Japan wins. Nothing against China, but Japan was slaughtered by Brazil at the GP and I think China has a better chance against Brazil than Japan.

I don't get it. Japan is known for their vb prowess, skill training, etc. They have a professional league to develop their players. So why does their national team stink?

In set #3 at point #3 (Japan up 3-2), #5 had a pretty sweet move for Japan. Jumped up like she was going to hit the ball and set the MH for the kill. Only other time I saw this was at Sports Performance when Arie Selinger was there for a coaches camp. I believe his son was showing a SP player from the boys team on how to do this.

WOW! Didn't see that. Found the match at 24-23 China after they scored the 24th point. Just got back from Mickey D's with my dinner....the Quarter Pounder sandwich here is much better than the US version if anyone is interested.

I don't get it. Japan is known for their vb prowess, skill training, etc. They have a professional league to develop their players. So why does their national team stink? They have always been known for their small ball, and in a way, this is what they have playing all this time, i.e. no real growth with the way the world has evolved. The world got beat by small ball, adjusted and got big and fast and left small ball behind. Japan is trying but they just don't have the horse, i.e. tall players to compete. Of those that they do have, I don't think they train them physically, they do train them in skills and technique but they are very strong, which definitely hurts them.

I don't think that they stink - they just can't compete with the best teams in the world. They more than hold their own against the second tier teams. Remember, they have a 5' 3" setter blocking the other teams strong-side hitter.

Sunderland really needs to work on his non-English surname pronunciations. He kept trying to say the Chinese players names and I couldn't understand a syllable.

He's failed throughout all the matches featuring Brasil because he pronounced "Murilo" as "Murilio" And this isn't me going off of the spelling, one of our players was a Brazilian exchange student and loved the guy and no "io" sound.

I'm going to cut Sunderland a break, I've been watching some matches on Telemundo and their commentators BUTCHER what seems like everyone's name.
