typically they are posted on the nirsa website. The past couple years they always say that they will be posted in mid-January sometime, but its always a crap shoot. So they could be posted in January, February maybe.

usually the first rankings are "supposed" to be out in february, although they are always late. There is usually a rankings link from the nirsa site (http://www.nirsa.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Sports/Volleyball/Collegiate_Volleyba.htm) but as of now there's nothing.
There's been some preseason tournaments already, anyone wanna take a stab at the top 25, or at least top 10?

Here would be my top 10:
1) Illinois
Then I think anyone of the next 5 could be placed in any order: 2) Lakeland 3) UW-Oshkosh 4) James Madison 5) UC-Davis 6) Santa Clara
7) UW-Milwaukee 8) Cal 9) UCLA 10)Michigan State
Just an opinion could be wrong- but at least a starting point.

Cal Poly should be inserted where Santa Clara is instead. Poly won the Cal tourney last month. Sta Clara probably not top 10 at this point. UCLA had a difficult tourney. They came in 9th. I don't know that they belong in the national top 10 at this point. Davis probably is having a rebuilding year. Probably won't start the season in the top 10. Coach Joey Elftman always does a good job so we'll see where they are later on.
UCSB is having a tourney this weekend I think, or next weekend. We'll see how that turns out.

If UW-Milwaukee deserves to be up there so should Ohio State. I could be a little biased, but we have a real solid team this year and we beat milwaukee in 2. I'd put Virginia Tech up there before Michigan State. State definately looked solid (as expected) but when we played VaTech at Hardwood Classic, they played really well. I'm not sure if it was a one match fluke or what (didnt get to watch them play any other matches) but if they play the way they did against us they definately deserve a top 10 rank. As for west coast, i have no idea... Havent really heard many results from anything over there.

The Milwaukee team that lost to OSU at the Ohio State tournament was a split squad. It didn't have the #1 outside, #1 middle or libero. The only tournaments that UW-Milwaukee has had its full squad at were NIU and Michigan State. But I agree, Ohio State should be up the there, probably instead of Michigan State. Illinois is clearly the team to beat this year.

What? No love for Buffalo? They're only going to be better than last year. Didn't they finish top 10 last year? Some would call it luck. But Buffalo has finished in the top 10 four times in the last 9 years. Just don't know why they are always left out. Maybe for the better. Take them lightly.

Some fairly good sources mumbling about Buffalo going D1 sooner rather than later. All the pieces seem to be in place and they have certainly done enough study and the last public report from campus recommended the next sport will be men's vb??? What is the word on campus? Couple of years possibly?

I disagree with Oshkosh being 3rd. I think they will be down slightly from last year, with them running a 6-2, plus losing erickson. but you never know.
but outside of illinois, i think that this year will be one of the most competitive years ever. i don't think that there is a pick of like 4 or 5 teams (like illinois, oshkosh, arizona, lakeland) of the past that will dominate every tournament. Every team is very capable of beating the other. It's gonna be a fun year.

eventhough oshkosh is running a 6-2, i think they are definetly better than last year. They return almost everyone if not everyone with the only exception being Nate setting and swinging right side instead of OH. Erickson is back apparently, donno the details but he played at the WVC kickoff tourney at oshkosh. Milwaukee is a strange team. THey can upset a lot of people because they work hard every game. THey have beat some good teams but can't put it together enough to be champions yet. Lakeland hasn't seemed to be full strength yet. Martin is gone but rumor is that both middles are back. Avdo didn't play at that WVC opener bc of injury and Jared wasn't there yet (coming back 2nd semester?) Young team took a full strength oshkosh team to 3, so maybe when they return jared and everyones healthy it will come together. Illinois has returned most starters i think excluding only the setter. they filled that position easily and almost beat Lewis at Loyola to get into the championship game. They will almost definetly be #1. I don't know anything about west coast teams, but maybe this is the year they do something at nationals instead of a Lakeland, Oshokosh, or Illinois (midwest team)?

Would a thread on volleytalk that was set up for club teams to post tournament results be of any use to these discussions? I really think club volleyball needs some kind of website to report tournament results to.

I'd totally read it if there was one, and I'm sure people would use the results posted as a reference for these discussions.
