D'uh i kinda screwed up on my previous post .... sorry
I would like to know more info on the teams from the midwest. With spring break coming up they will be traveling out here to play us and i would like some info on teams like BSU, IPFW, Lewis, Loyola, Quincy and OSU. How are they doing so far, who they will play over here, and some good games to go watch as well as some predictions of results and players to watch...
Thanks

here's the deal on the midwest: Lewis is the best team in the conference as you can see from the rankings. They are playing really good ball so far but have some issues such as some older players who might be pros and such. Haven't seen them play but they should give some MPSF teams some trouble.
Ball State isn't as talented this year as they were last year. Just incredibly consistent and play good all around ball. They aren't very exciting to watch, they just kill you with touches off the block and their defense, already lost two or three times this season though.
OSU is proving everyone wrong. We actually haven't played them yet, but they are pretty decent. I don't think they have lost in conference yet. have already been out there once, don't know if they're goin again.
IPFW is probably the most exciting team from the conference to watch. All of their players jump extremely well and they run a very confusing offense. Players are flying all over the place. They make some dumb mistakes but they are pretty good. Jeff Ptak absolutely flies, he should be a hell of a lot better than he is.
Loyola is very good. Don't know much about them, but they're pretty decent. Shane Davis is the best setter in the conference, and his team is very experienced. Their really good, and should give some teams some problems.
Quincy visits in two weeks and there should be some interesting matches. They are a very young team who get better every match. They have a tendency to freeze up against good teams, but if they play loose, they should be ok. They seem to be putting together a decent season.
Hope this all helps.

you got to be kidding me with the bs about pro players at lewis. i'm a friend of a player there and he has told me everything, there are no pro players. who are u anyway? why don't u just tell us who u play for? u keep saying we, we, we. it will make it easier for us to know if u know anything about volleyball. probably not though because u tink there are pros playing at lewis.

I play for a school out here in the midwest and the Lewis thing has been talked about and it is done with. Who cares if they do anyway, we have to play them the same way... so lets stop bitching about it.... not that he was bitching but lets not even start cause this is soooo last year.... C'mon they are a talented team and we are going to have to work hard to beat them.... they are beatable ... that is all.

you never answered my question though, what team in the miva do u play for and why do u think they are beatable? if ball state and loyola can't beat them, then why do u think u can? i predict them going 16-0 in conference andn a trip to the final 4. period. later.

Over the last five years, Lewis has clearly had the best talent in the midwest. However, they have been snake-bit. Every year, something comes up (usually a self-inflicted something) to derail them. Will they go 16-0 in conference? Probably not. Will they make the final four? Only if they win the conference tournament. Who can beat them? In one match, Loyola, Ball State, IPFW, but most likely if they lose, it will be because they beat themselves.

hey, i totally agree with what everyone says. all i mentioned is that there is a rumor lewis has pros. i know they can definetly lose to almost any team on any given nite, and i agree that they are beatable as loyola proved. you have to play near perfect against them, but it is possible. i also agree that we should go out there and play them. thats the only way to show them up. BUT, if they don't have pros, why did Meyer sit last year?? it wasn't because he was injured, let me tell you that, its cause there was a question in his eligibility, which is all i was sayin in the first place.

The Meyer situation was that he took either the ACT or SAT (I don't remember which) in Spanish instead of English and no one caught it until later. Questions as to his "pro" status were dismissed quickly. If Gustavo is a "pro", so are many other Latin American players.

Meyer played professionally in Sweden 2 years ago. It has been well-documented. MIVA and the NCAA have all the info. He was listed among the league leaders in several categories on the league website. He sat out last year as part of his penalty, but he has apparently done what the NCAA told him to do to regain his remaining eligibility. This is not unprecedented, as other "professionals" in other sports have been able to regain amateur status.

ahh, i am vindicated. people even have proof that meyer was a pro. personally, i think it is bull that a pro can regain amateur status, but hey, rules were made to be broken. anyways, i look forward to playin lewis, they're a tough team even without him.

With born-again Christians and born-again virgins, why not also have born again amateurs? I'll tell you why: the NCAA isn't supposed to be someone's agent. If you turn pro and don't think they're paying you enough too bad, especially if the rules are being bent only for foreigners and not for native athletes. As far as I know most people pay agents to up their stock. I guess the NCAA likes to give out freebies.

This message is in respones to so hoy yo saying that lewis has had the best talent for the past five years. I will agree that in the last 3 years they have had a very good team but from 98-99 and 99-00 season have to belong to OSU and IPFW. With players for IPFW being Hector Soto, Chris Gisslin, and other good players that i can't think of their names (sorry). Than you have OSU that went to the National championship in 2000. they had angel aja, rene esteves, pieter Olree, colin Mcmillian, chris fash. All i'm saying is that in these two years these teams were better not to taking anything away from lewis it is fine program.
