Ok, just saw IPFW's website that Findlay took them to five games, after IPFW was down 1-2. The stats don't look that bad for IPFW, so what happened? I saw where they switched setters in the fourth game and that seemed to be what they needed to bring them back. Anyone see this game that can give me some insight?

Findlay came to play plain and simple. They served the freshman libero off the court and made matty beat them.

IPFW's main setter seemed to have injured his hand. Randolph was doing a phenomenal job before he got hurt then Daiga had to come in after that. Plain and simple IPFW's libero and ousides are terrible. They will lose next round because they have no leadership/ball control. Their libero #8 i believe is far better than their terrible freshman however I'm not sure Arnie will ever realize that.

Well Findlay kind of blew this one away.. 7 service errors in game 4, 5 service errors in game 5. You simply aren't going to win that way. 26 service errors overall.. If there is one scouting report on IPFW is it simply apply a little pressure serving and they will just fold. I have said all along that the passing and defense for IPFW is horrible. Couple that with the shaky at best setting... Anyways, Morici and Josh Colllins have got to be the 2 worst college starters in the country. Neither one of them can pass. www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/sports/colleges/11471468.htmMy gosh when your own coach admits that you have problems passing... why on earth are you on the court???! Liberos that can't pass are like setters with their hands chopped off or soccer players with no feet. You have no purpose. If you read that link Arnie puts him in as Libero for his covering of the hitters.... ok that MAY happen 3 or 4 times a match.. Is that worth giving up passing and defense? I'd give up the 3 or 4 balls you can cover in exchange for something that resembles consistent passing. 7 reception errors... SEVEN! That doesn't even include the passing errors he has on freeballs.. I have seen a lot of games that were lost because he simply could not execute at critical times of the match.. I'm not talking about a bomb from the service line that blows you off the court. I'm talking about a simple roll shot/ down ball. Predictably it will shoot over the net and get hammered down. I have been brutal on him and I am sure he is a nice kid but a starting libero he doesn't deserve to be. BACK to the match, IPFW played really well in the first game with Randolph setting. As stated earlier, Findlay did not put much pressure on IPFW serving so IPFW has an easy time. Games 2 and 3 Findlay played better and served better, although between games 2 and 3, Morici got Aced 6 times to go along with 2 ball handling errors.. (my gosh SIX times) Morici got subbed out in game 4 for Nick Belman. Belman came in and did a slightly better job. I don't think Randolph was hurt. He was ready to come back into the match in game 4 when IPFW was down 4-8 but IPFW made a six point run and led the rest of the way in game 4 so he sat back down. Findlay had IPFW on the ropes at 14-12 in the 5th but a service error and a 4 point run by IPFW was the end of the story. There were some questionable officiating calls but that's a topic for another post.... As far as Findlay is concerned, they played pretty well. This is my first time seeing CJ play so I couldn't comment on him very well in all the FOY stuff. He has potential to be a dominant player. He has a lot of shots and athletic ability, He is pretty inconsistent though. I think if he dropped a little weight and played a LOT more VB I think he could be really good. He just needs to play more. Jim Dziczkowski and Corey Oliver are pretty good compliments to CJ and (I have no idea what years Jim and Corey are in) if they stick together and play a couple years together they could win the MIVA. For next year, IPFW HAS to get better setting. Can't get much worse and I can't understand why Arnie settled for some a bad libero... there has got to be some kid out on the west coast or Hawaii who just wants to play... I think Brock Ullrich and Jerrod Quillen are pretty good players who could develop into serviceable OH. I think Brock has a much higher upside to go along with one of the funkiest jump serves I have seen in a while. (although hands down funkiest jump serve is Ed Ratledge of UCLA) Everyone is so high on Serdar but I just don't think he is THAT great... Yes he is a good blocker, probably one of the best in the MIVA but he can't hit. Granted the setting sucks but still.. I think Josh Stewart is a better hitter and once IPFW gets better setting, Josh could be more in the mold of Colin McMillan of OSU rather than the Mike Cummings as I mistakely wrote in a previous post. Judging by what I saw this year, unless the MIVA gets some impact freshman (i.e. a Soto or Ptak or Meyer) it will be a down year again. Hopefully Arnie will pull out some recruiting miracles out of the PR or someplace and there will be some better VB in Indiana.

There were some questionable officiating calls but that's a topic for another post.... Tell us what happened! I saw in a follow up article in the JG last week where Arnie was complaining about the officiating at the OS match. My guess it's because he doesn't have the choice of 3 or 4 libero's to choose from when recruiting. This is probably the only kid that wanted to come to IPFW. Help Arnie out ... go find him someone from the west coast or Hawaii that wants to come to Ft. Wayne, Indiana to play! Amen to that! I can't remember very many times when IPFW hasn't had at least one player from PR on their roster and it seems unthinkable to go two years without someone.

Tell us what happened! I saw in a follow up article in the JG last week where Arnie was complaining about the officiating at the OS match. I was at that OSU match also and the up official was just WAY too loose at critical times of the match but I don't think that it had a big affect on the match but it killed any momentum that IPFW had. Last night there was a big discussion about the pursuit rule. Findlay attacked the ball; hits the IPFW block; STAYS on Findlay's side of the net going out of bounds; Collins runs around and plays the ball outside of the antenna back to IPFW's side and IPFW plays it over and wins the point.... How does that contact off the block that goes outside of the court consitute a "pursuable" ball? Anyway initial call was that it was IPFW's ball but it was eventually reversed. Which IMHO was the correct call. There was just some questionable calls that bailed IPFW at a critical point in the 5th game but nothing extraordinary.

Indeed, it was the correct call good luck against Loyola. pray for passing.. It's almost painful watching you hit those sets that are just all over the place.
