I remember the first time we beat the Cal- Los Angeles Ruins this year someone said we were not as good as we thought we were. After tonight's win I can say 1) you were wrong and 2) the Ruin's defense is horrible. #17 did not dig one ball. And The Beach wasn't even aiming it his way. Plus Acosta got roofed three times in a row.
We are good enough to beat the might Ruins and that's good enough for me this season.

What is the big deal? Is it really some big feat to beat UCLA? Get over it! The Beach should have beat them, UCLA is nothing special. If other teams weren't such a bunch of weak-minded wimps who have already convinced themselves that UCLA is too good, then they would beat them too. The Bruins are just another team and are very beatable, get off their hairy, bear nuts!

How many Championships does LongBeach have again? Long Beach has around 4 or 5 national championships. Pepperdine and USC have around that many as well. And then there is UCLA. They have 18 or 19 national championships. Beating UCLA is a huge feat. This might be the first time UCLA will not make the play offs.

One is correct. And Scates has 18 (I think). Fat Al hates to lose to anyone and that why I love it when we beat them. He now has to coach to win, like defense for starters.
I like the competetion that now exists in the MPSF, unlike the 70's and 80's when Fat Albert was king.

I like the competetion that now exists in the MPSF, unlike the 70's and 80's when Fat Albert was king. I find it amazingly dumbfounding to ponder why someone comes on here to blantanlty disrespect this coach who has won not just in this "modern era of 'defense'" but in a span that covers the last 3 decades! The last championship being just two full seasons ago in 2000. The one before that was '98, then '96, then '95, then '93..... oh, then in '91 Ray Ratelle won it with LBS. Now that's been a while. A long while. And when you compare that win to old washed up Al as you are characterizing this living and so productive legend, well it might as well have been in the last century. Oh look! It was! So how many championships has LBS won in the modern era? Oh, forgot, we already answered that. None. You're one to talk. Hey look, I'm all for having fun and for wanting to bash a rival, but be realistic in doing it. Al Scates has won in every era anyone can cite, 18 times, against any defense anyone could throw at him, and all at a place where the pressure to win is just routine. He's handled it all. And ya, he's put on a few pounds, but all those rich celebration dinners do have a tendancy to affect one's waist line. Just win baby. Then you can brag with believable conviction.

I agree with Sweetie & Man o man. That was a very tacky comment, H20. Al Scates is a kind man and has been a great coach for 41 years. I am disappointed to read so many immature posts lately. Let's keep our comments constructive.

OK. Just my and others nickname for Al Scates, Not calling into question his record.
In the same vane Marv Dunphy is Dark Vader and John Dunning is Woody. Maybe I should not use those names either. One is praising of a man's ability and the other refers to his similarity to a famous person.
Al Scates is a volleyball coach with a very good record, but he's not God. And he doesn't like to lose. I won't call him Fat Albert again on this board. You have made your point.

U - YOU C - CAN L - LOSS A - ALSO GET THE MESSAGE. speaking of grammar ... loss, lost and lose are all forms of one word. they don't mean the same. i think this was the same discussion on another thread. now before this psychology major and dance minor (sadly, i hate english) corrects you, i'd like to take the time to say that dissing another team is stupid. most posters here are giving personal opinions about their team and other teams. there is no need to put down another team. (i feel like i should be a second grade teacher now; i've already said "shame on you," and now i sound like an after-school special.) now back to grammar. loss - noun. "that was a bad loss." lost - verb, past tense. "we lost that game." lose - verb, present tense. "we always lose." i think the above poster was trying to say "you can LOSE also." now ... BACK TO VOLLEYBALL! go warriors!

The Bruins are still not 100% healthy. Watch out when they get healthy!
