Pirate, let me point out that you are arguing with someone who is using Star Trek as a historical reference. This usually does not end well. Wait, are you saying that Star Trek is not real?!?!

Are you claiming that Clarence Thomas was even remotely close to being one of the most qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice?? Not only does Sotomayor have more judicial experience than ANY current sitting Supreme Court Justice had WHEN they were nominated; I don't see how the GOP can even begin to question her qualifications when they appointed someone like Clarence Thomas?? Thanks for pointing that out -- Clarence Thomas may not have been the most qualified. I agree. My argument boils down to whether you think it is good thing to appoint someone based upon whether there was bias in the past. These are termed "make-up calls" in the sports world. If that's what you believe, fine. I'm just saying that sometimes that can be a slippery slope. No, I don't think there should be a make up call. I think any Supreme Court justice SHOULD be highly qualified, and I believe Sotomayor is. I just think anybody in the GOP has NO credibility in bringing up the issue of qualifications if they supported Clarence Thomas. On the issue of qualifications, let's compare Sotomayor to the white man who was chosen over her the last time around. Judge Alito. If you compare their credentials, I believe you would find hers to be equal if not better in many areas.

Alito may not have been the most qualified, ESPECIALLY if he was choosen just for being white. I say come up with a list of candidates and don't dismiss anyone because of age, sex, gender, color of their skin, where they were born, etc.

How on earth are you deciding who is qualified or not? Does Tawa have a ranking somewhere that I haven't been willing to pay for?

How on earth are you deciding who is qualified or not? Does Tawa have a ranking somewhere that I haven't been willing to pay for? Yes, the Tawa/National Law Review's "Top 100 Judges." For some reason a judge from Nebraska is always on top of the list.

Everyone knows Judges from the Pac-10 are the best. How a Nebraska Judge got on top, I'll never know. There's a bias in the polling, I tell ya.

By the way, Sotomayor graduated summa cum laude from Princeton. I'm sure there are people out there claiming she was only admitted because she was a minority (without any proof, of course), but that wouldn't explain why she excelled at school.

I guess the Latin word for "with" is much too disgusting to be allowed to be printed on this board.

From politico.com: Rush flips, may support Sotomayer
After calling Judge Sonia Sotomayor a “reverse racist” last week, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that he may now possibly support President Barack Obama’s pick for the Supreme Court.
“I can see a possibility of supporting this nomination if I can be convinced that she does have a sensibility toward life in a legal sense,” Limbaugh said during his show.
In justifying his flip, Limbaugh pointed out that Sotomayor is Catholic and “doesn't have a clear record on abortion.”
Hinting that Sotomayor could possibly support overturning Roe v. Wade, Limbaugh said “whoa, it would be huge.”
----------------------------
This is a Red Flag warning for Dems -- if Rush is supporting her, then something must be going on here. Could be a just smokescreen, but Dems may have some tough questions for Sotomayer also.

Dude, go back through this thread and you will see that many of us have already pointed out that her record on abortion rights suggests she might not favor them. I don't need Rush Limbaugh to tell me that.

I am 1 year older than her .. I graduated at top of my high school class (10%) of 650 graduating class. I rebelled against education being taught in 70's by NOT ATTENDING..thus earning more money than my teachers doing Sheitrock. I CHALLENGE any of you to ask who was quoted most by graduates in their yearbook?( during this era ) Hint .."ask not what your country CAN DO FOR YOU..." GEE ..A DEMOCRAT SAID THAT... HOW.... illogical.. who did SOTO quote... and what were HIS BELIEFS? add to what she has stated in context of this little thread.. You took 3 courses in LOGIC..I WON HIGH School DEBATE.. Go after RUSH...I am sure he is worried..heck..you cant hold water against me.

Bill, that post -- surprise! -- makes absolutely no sense. Perhaps there's somebody at the institution who can translate your communications before you post them?
