Can we get a separate religious forum outside of the political forum too? It's getting pretty awful listening to the crap in the politics forum. Apparently Jesus makes his way into any and every topic. That's what happens when people use religious beliefs for political legislation. Find a government or country whose politics and legislation were not influenced by religious beliefs.

Clausewitz said war is politics by other means. I imagine religion fits somewhere along that continuum.

China, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, just to name a few. All of which score very high on societal health.

Individuals have religious beliefs and that influences their decisions as politicians. Why wasn't Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge listed by you, or Cuba and North Korea? Maybe Albania

It would be virtually impossible to divorce their current laws and culture from their societies' religious background.

I think we need to establish what we mean by "politics and legislation [are] not influenced by religious beliefs."
For example, I take this to mean that a politician is in favor of a law because it is in line with the Bible. Not because it is demonstrated to be good or bad, but because the Bible says so.

For example, I take this to mean that a politician is in favor of a law because it is in line with the Bible. Not because it is demonstrated to be good or bad, but because the Bible says so. If that's the case, then most current lawmakers in those countries don't claim to put forth legislation because it conforms to the Bible. That said, I think it's almost impossible to divorce Western culture from religious influences.

The thread title is NO POLITICS/NO RELIGION and you guys are literally discussing politics and religion. You're correct. Not sure whether it's a mitigating factor or not, but at least we were discussing them in kind of a neutral way--without saying a particular type of religion or politics is bad. Thanks for the warning.

If everyone posted in poem form (e.g., haiku, conventional ABAB or AABB), I'd bet there would be less heated fights about politics or religion.

My God tells me I can't discuss Politics anymore. He also tells me you all are doofs. Especially Wolfgang.
I don't know. It may just be the radio.

When you ask members of this forum, "What part of 'No' do you not understand?" the answer seems to be very clear.
