With Minnesota suffering with inconsistency as of late, and Louisville bringing in a talented, physical, experienced team, this could be an interesting matchup. Ruffda, ugopher.. your thoughts?

If Gibby comes to play -- the Gophers will sweep.

Tend to agree. When MN is on they can be very tough to stop. The insertion of Harms into the offense gives them another weapon.
The key, to me, will be the play of Love, Harms and Filho. If they can produce MN should win. They cannot rely solely on Gibbemeyer to carry them. Another factor will be if the backrow will continue their solid play from last Saturday vs Illinois.
Louisville should have momentum from the Big East tourney. Not sure, though, did they play last weekend? If not, will they be a little rusty? Wish I would have paid closer attention to the Big East championship match.
This could be the match where the addition of Carico is big. She's been there before. Otherwise, I think only Tan has made it out of the second round.
If it were played in MN I would say Gophers easily. But I'm from MN so I tend to be pessimistic by nature.
That said, MN in 4.

Has Louisville ever made it to the S 16? I hear the same thing about them every year: HUGE AND PHYSICAL. Well, they stink every year in the tourney. MTSU beat them on their home court in 2006. Minny in an EASY 3. Take it to the bank.

Minny in an EASY 3. Take it to the bank. I'd feel better about that statement if so many banks weren't on the "watch" list!

Minny in an EASY 3. Take it to the bank. Louisville made it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2005 where they lost to FLorida in Gainesville, back when they had the All-American trio of Ustymenko, Hoffman, and Yartseva. They were ranked in the top 10 that year. This year's team is also very physical at the net but no where near as good as the '05 team. They have a few hitters who can really crush the ball, but they often struggle with ball control, which has led to their inconsistency this year. Players to watch are Arslanbekova, Landi, and Brown.

The Gophers have finally put it all together and are in the sweet zone right now. Unless Louisville can get them out of system on a regular basis the Gophers will dominate. I predict 3-1 win. Harms has become the missing link for them.

With Minnesota suffering with inconsistency as of late ... This is news to me... From what I've seen, they're finally getting into a rhythm. I didn't realize that sweeping Illinois made you inconsistent.

I didn't realize that sweeping Illinois made you inconsistent. To be fair, I think harrydoyle could be referring to the Michigan/Michigan State weekend. But both places are difficult to play in. Against Northwestern, MN was a little ragged but against Illinois they looked like they were close to putting it together.

What will the ghost of Dieter hold for the Gophers ?

What will the ghost of Dieter hold for the Gophers ? Nothing. Dieter is a dead issue. Gophers should be OK, but it doesn't take much for someone to get hot for Louisville and carry them, especially if MN struggles handling the ball.

What will the ghost of Dieter hold for the Gophers ? I think the ghost of Dieter is gone. The team has put it behind them and have moved on.

Lousiville is way down this year. In past years they were strong enough to get in the tourney even if upset in the Big East tourney. This year they had to win it as a lower seed to get in. They have used at least 3 different setters this year, primarily in a 5-1 but sometimes in a 6-2. They have small middles and only 2 outsides who take a big 10 level swing at the ball.
