Speraw. Years ago Scates told him he should go into women's volleyball if he wanted to coach. Now's his chance.

Maybe Mike Sealy was waiting for this opening when he turned down LMU's offer. (I still say he looks like "Michael Vaughn" of "Alias.") Not if Kim Jagd has anything to say about that! She is definitely the front-runner. Unless they're looking at someboody else. Kim is gone too...she made the announcement to the team today.

Someone's suggestion regarding JMac just got me concerned for the troops in Seattle. He's from the beach and has always wanted to be closer to the national team programs. Now that their (US team) is in the LA area would seem to be something he might consider. I also think he might be tired of missing out on the top recruits like he has in last few years.
Unfortunately, this move would not shock me especially with the same $$ issues with UW programs as UC programs.

Speaking personally, I think the world of both Andy and Kim and am saddened to learn this news. I wish them both well but know that my coverage of club volleyball won't be as enjoyable without them to share sidelines with.

Honestly, Karch has zero relevant coaching experience, but...do you need to have that at UCLA? Karch is your head coach, recruits all the good players, then your assistant does the actual coaching, like Corlett, a UCLA grad. :-) As for Sealy, I think there's a difference when you're IN the program and might take over. That may be, but the guy see's things many others don't. An example from a couple of years ago when he was covering a Nebraska/Texas match was him pointing out Faucette would telegraph her soft shots by something she was doing with her feet. There have been many other enlightening observations from the guy nobody else covering volleyball was catching. How any of that translates to coaching--- who knows. Given the guys history, if I'm looking for a coach, he's on the list of people I want to interview.

I hope Gil and Lauren are finally happy. I'm sure all the other girls left on the team that didn't quit on their teammates are... The whole staff would still be there if it wasn't for those 2 selfish players. Sad thing to see when selfish actions hurt those "teammates" they signed up and committed to play with.

Something tells me there is more to this story than meets the eye. I have a feeling it was those coaches who were the reasons those players chose to leave . . .

Bad grape season in California this year. They're all sour.

Possible candidates: Nina Mathies Mike Sealy Jon Wallace Jon Stevenson Bob Stoops Jim Harbaugh David Rubio Not a bad list, but there is one name that you must have included by mistake because it's so ridiculous. I mean, really, Dave Rubio? Really??

For those who hadn't already seen her during JNT days, every Texas fan who'd ever sat in on a practice/match knew about Faucette's tip "tell". She's spectacularly consistent in doing something so simple so poorly. The truly elite players take the same approach as always and adjust their shot in the air. She doesn't have that ability; she commits to either roll-tip or cannon blast before the takeoff, and once she's in the air executes the pre-determined move with seemingly no awareness of where the defense is.

True...I was sitting with some people fairly new to volleyball during the replay, and they noticed it, and asked if that was the way things were supposed to be done. Also...picking up on an occasional player tendency that others may not see does not make a good, or even average coach...and has even less bearing on being a head coach.
