Apparently Loyola can't hang with anyone outside the MIVA or the Central State's or the Midwest NAIA teams of the world. 0-3 out here, and even losing to Cal Baptist. From what I have been told Loyola's Gym is a HOLE that nobody can play in but them. I believe I was even told that they have a pretty nice Gym on campus, but choose to play in the crappy one to give them more of a home court advantage. So they have a decent record at home against some pretty average teams, but playing with the big boys in the MPSF is a different story. If they do make it out of the MIVA, it will be a nice trip to the Final Four and a "0-3, thanks for coming loss" in the Semis as usual. With the exception of what Lewis did one year.

Loyola's gym get LOUD, and it can be a serious homecourt advantage. I think any team would take that over barely filling a larger, nicer facility...why not?

That's fine. If they can do that, and win some extra matches at home GREAT! Doesn't help them at all on the road when they play in a normal gym, does it. Besides, the point of my thread wasn't to say they shouldn't play in their crappy gym. The point was to point out that they can't hang with real competition.

Losing to Cal Baptist this year is a joke.

You guys are douche bags, maybe if you were at the games then maybe you could talk. Loyola was right there with both UCI and UCLA. Ever heard of home court advantage? Home court gives the home team 3-4 point edge in every game. I thought maybe you volleyball geniuses actually knew the game somewhat. FUcantBSme you are the JOKE!

I would have disagree with a 3-4 point advantage in EVERY game. I dont know if even scouting a team and coming up with a game plan can make that much of a difference. All these college players are great and most all of them will adapt to your exploits and change the way they are playing. Having homecourt advantage with a loud crowd could make maybe 1-3 points difference. However with a loud crowd and an outstanding gameplan, you MIGHT have a 4 point advantage per game.

Regardless of gym, the net is still the same height, and the court is the same size. The likelyness (sp?) of getting 3-4 off a home court advantage is about the same as getting 3-4 off of a run started off the momentum loss from a bad call. It can't be predicted.
If you think Loyola is terrible, that's a fair opinion, but to attribute their victories to the fact that their gym gives them that much of an advantage? N-word please...

Ok, we're getting off the original thread again. UcantBSme is saying that yet ANOTHER MIVA team can't hang with the big boys out west. Unfortunatly, he has been right on most occasion with his generalizations in this point. Yes Loyola does play in the PIT, DUNGEON What ever you want to call it, and they do get an added advantage. The question however is when will a team from either the midwest or east go out west and not just compete but dominate again as Penn tae did the two or three years after winning the National Championship.

The West Coast trip hadn't surprised me until the Cal Bap match. Loyola swept them last year. The 4th game score befuddled me 30-16 in favor of Cal Bap. A few weeks ago I hoping for a 1-3 trip against the MPSF and we still have two more out in Hawaii. I'd be happy with a split. As for Loyola's gym, it is the way volleyball is meant to be played in a small and intimate environment. I've seen matches in both our regular gym and our new basketball gym and the basketball gym is too big for a not so big attendance. The only real differences when it comes to the playing surface are these: The length is a bit longer but the width is the same and the roof is higher in the newer basketball gym than the old one taking the lower beams out of play.

Anybody who played in north gym at USC 5-6 years ago when SC was a power knows how absolutely awesome a really small venue can be...

I have some bad news for you "vuster4"....YOU AIN'T GETTIN A SPLIT OUT IN HAWAII......TRUST ME!!! And "mivamiva2" wow dude, you said "FU" to me. Not appropriate for this site big guy. Loyola may have been "right there" with both UCLA and UCI, but you know what bud, no "W" in the results column dude. No "W" on the whole trip and like I said before, only your Carthage match is going to stop you from having 5 losses in a row, cuz you ain't getting any "W's" in Hawaii either. Loyola is a good Midwest team THIS YEAR. But out here they "CAN'T HANG"!
