Maybe the national volleyball scene should take some notes from Hawai`i. Because volleyball is well publicized here and the University of Hawai`i volleyball results and articles are always in the newspapers, on the news and around town. Even the high school scores are posted and a lot of times they run articles on the top high school teams in the state. Volleyball is just a very popular and well respected sport in the islands. So maybe the national scene should take some notes and start publicizing volleyball more.

If enough people got together and started a league in So Cal, it might work. Get everyone we know who cares about volleyball to donate $5000 (?is that enough?) to get it started. Start with 5 or 6 teams. They could start in May after the Men's Final's when there is a lull in the college game. Or, if you don't want to conflict with the beach scene, they could play in the winter. Starting in So Cal would make it easy to play each other and with the fan base already there, might make it viable. Once you had some attention, then you could spread to some small towns in the mid-west and east. Just some thoughts on a Monday morning.

It is embarassing to say but we do not have the best fan base here in So Cal. Attendance at the men's games is not overwhelming. Kolohekeiki is right. Hawaii has the most fan support......(notice I said MOST, so don't everyone yell at me saying their fans are best) Hawaii can support the Stan Sheriff Center for both their men's and women's teams. A pro league would not draw huge fans unless it was on the beach with a free keg and all the participants were wearing costumes.

Is there just too many other things to do in So Cal? I guess people would rather play than watch. The women's matches get a pretty good turn out. I thought perhaps the men didn't draw as many fans because of baseball, but maybe people just aren't as psyched up about it.
