I feel sorry for KU fans. Well, maybe not too much. As CBS Sports says, "And you're going to cry after the game, Kansas? Don't bother. Too late. Nobody wants to hear that crap now." This is a great story about teamwork and effort (and brains) AND its a great story about Cindy's son, Ali Farokhmanesh. "In those final three minutes, though, Kansas made like the Grinch. Its heart grew two sizes after Self called for the full-court press, and Kansas just about chased Northern Iowa into oblivion. The Panthers probably would have folded all the way under the pressure were it not for Farokhmanesh, who's as gutty as any player in the field. He had missed six straight 3-pointers when he found himself alone on the 3-point arc with 35 seconds left and a 63-62 lead.
It was early in the shot clock, so the smart basketball play would have been to pull the ball out, run off some more clock and shoot with about 10 seconds left in the game -- but screw it. Where's the fun in that? Farokhmanesh didn't punt. He went for it. He fired up the 3-pointer, and it went down, and this game was basically over."www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/story/13090780/its-a-crying-shame-kansas-didnt-want-it-sooner

www.mvc-sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=7600&ATCLID=204912849"(AP) In an NCAA tournament full of upsets, Northern Iowa pulled off the biggest one: The Panthers took down mighty Kansas. UNI has become the eighth Valley team to reach the Sweet 16 since 1994. Notably, the Missouri Valley has received just 33 total bids from 1994-2010, meaning nearly one of every four Valley NCAA berths since 1994 have resulted in a Sweet 16 trip."These "mid-majors" are not any good, especially the Missouri Valley Conference. Look at the MVC first round losses in the 2009 NCAA WVB tourney. And in the 2010 NCAA MBB tourney. They certainly don't deserve multiple teams in any NCAA tourney. BTW: Where is pablo (i.e. p-dub)? She is an UNI alumnus; why isn't she proping her team?

I didn't watch the game but it sounds like a great shot. Who is Cindy's son going to beat next? 99.9% sure that it will not be Kansas. ;D oops

If I recall correctly, Iowa fired Cindy. Assuming, for fun, that Iowa could have UNI's basketball team (with Cindy's son) and UNI's NCAA tourney success this year, how much would the decision to fire Cindy have cost Iowa?
How much is a NCAA MBB tourney game worth to a team? $1.2M? $1.6M?
This is just a fun exercise. Dingman has improved Iowa's record but Penn State still isn't concerned about the Hawkeyes. Has Iowa improved a lot since Fredrick left?

I mentioned in the other board, it is somewhat bittersweet to see Cindy sitting in the stands rooting for UNI. For that time she was at Iowa, she never had anything good to say about UNI, and constantly made snide remarks about it. Now she sits in the stands and cheers for them. I'm glad Ali is with the team, but we don't forget, Cindy.

As for Iowa badmouthing UNI, if I were a UNI fan I would just say "Scoreboard" to the Iowa fans. Or maybe "NCAA WVB tourney scoreboard." ;D

Iowa beat UNI the last time they played (at least when Cindy was coaching - first thing she did was drop them from the schedule). Some Iowa fans think that is the end-all-be-all that matters. Meanwhile, UNI is still making the NCAA tournament and Iowa, um, isn't. But I should be clear - it's not about "Iowa badmouthing UNI." It was CINDY badmouthing UNI, in lots of snide ways. Now she sits in the stands and cheers for us. As I said, it is bittersweet.

I found this while visiting MVC fan boards:
On B&B this am someone brought up this tid bit and Bob said the fault lay with uni in that the info sheet they (uni) gave cbs contained the info as it was relayed by the announcers. Later the mistake was discovered and thats when they tried to "fix" it. Take it with a grain of salt.
I'm not sure what B&B is (but now I'm in the mood for some good barbeque. ;D )

Um, as much as I love the story, they made it sound like Frederick quit coaching to follow him around.
