The best of da Best, then:Div. IMen's: Costas Theocharidis (the ill eagle one) // ( Campbell Castle High's) ALLEN ALLEN Women's: Teee Williams (who in her early forties is still able to compete against some of the best German 'Sand' VB players) // (McKinley High's) ROBYN AH MOW Div. II Men's (BYU-Hi.): (Player & now Coach) MIKE WILTON <---//---> (Kamehameha High's, VB Hall of Fame inductee, '69-'70 Collegiate All-American *in Laie*) PEDRO 'PETE' VELASCO Women's: ARLETE SILVA (High flying Brazilian BYUH MB, who could 'crank' from any of all six court positions; 4-time 1st Team All-Am.; National Champion: 1996, 1999) // (Star of the Sea's) FLO ALO *FLO (6 ft.'r) was one who dominated the NAIA competition, much as MB Cathy Flick (Puget Sound U., Wa.) had done in a couple of years prior. She was a multi-1st AA 'teamer'; she played ('85-88) @ UHH and culminated her career with 1988 NAIA MVP honors. ...(Of course) just a few more tid bits to add to this thread's collection(s).

Alright, Hawai'i here 'it' is. In sharing a little more about who 'WE' are, I thought that this could be a fun one (for the time being) as we could also present our mana'o (knowledge) on the subjet matter. The deal is to give as much as possible, the more details, the better. This is based upon the previously, aforementioned 'families' topic (chose any one on the list). I'll do the first, someone does the next, and so on and so on. For the rest of everybody else...you can chime in at anytime...doing so at your own risk, of course. You all know how some of those HI fans can be ( )...so merciless, hah? ____________________________________________________ *As this particular one (perhaps) may be a bit more difficult, I'll start out... MA'A'S: (pop) Pono--mid 80s UH player (multi AA), one of AVP's all time greats, long time coach @ alma mater KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS. (mom) Lisa (Strand)--twin sister to Kelly (who played at Cal Poly, I can remember BTW when Wilton had brought them to the Haili Tourney as the then NCAA #1 team); National Champion @ UH; AVP/MLV professional; participant for Team USA--in Osaka, JP--on the inaugural "Mama-san" VB tourney, in these last few years. *Lisa also, incidentally, is 'color' along side Leahey at times for KFVE. (daughter) Misty--2012 graduate from KAMEHAMEHA-KAPALAMA, with Stanford, UCLA, and UH (on the mind)/in pursuit??? ANYWAY, next...

Oh come on...so the 'Hwns' on this forum are in need of learning a few things, also??? Not a one can at least offer some type of expertise *I know that there are some of you out there*. ...where is GOBB (when you'd want him)! Well then, back to a bit more history. (again, this might be) One of the more difficult therefore: Mckibben'sOWEN--former USC All-Am, another of the AVP greats, SUPER model (Ralph Lauren, GQ, Men's Health..you name it, this man has been in it or on the cover) Diana (McInerny)--National Champion; sibling herself to a couple of all star, nationally known brothers; OCC life-er who could be found on center 'sand' court more often than not Riley--starting, current USC men's setter (there in Watts) for at least a couple of more years Maddison--2009 VB Mag., Fab 50's MVP; OH @ USC So I'm hoping not to have to do these all myself. Please, can someone help??? ;D

When (and IF) someone decides to take da ALLEN Ohana, please don't forget about baby sister: Delores*She was one who quite literally/objectively/feasibly could very well have been the best ALLEN of them all. Surely, not all are meant for 'scholarly' pursuit(s), BUT this sister was ferocious when it came to vb skills and abilities. NOBODY compared with her shear strength!!! ____________________________________________________ da Robins' Ohana:Duke; Mary; Sean (JO All-Am, Fab 50 out of 'select' public school on Oahu, RS Frsh '89 @ UH); Danielle (all everything but never fully recovered from knee injuries...yet just enough to cruise through Div. II); Fred (@ UCLA); Joclyn; Alexis SO, ANYWAY, WHATEVER!...

THE CULMINATION ( ): Your State of Hawai'i's ALL TIME BEST(s) (for which many would not readily disagree)... [1980-2010], as there've been greats before then, also Men's~ (not Clay, Allen, Pete, Shojis) #1 = REED SUNAHARA 6'5", 205 lbs. (at the time), 40" verticle, 1982 product of Hilo High School (on the Big Island). He was the most phenomenal athlete IMHO--EVER (the man was all-state in VB, BB, and Baseball; his parents would send him to athletic camps on the continent to improve his skills *ha, ha*) REED was all the rave on the Westwood Campus as the heir air apparent @ replacing the BIG K.K.. He was an All-Am. (1st team) his first two years at UCLA.. The man ruined it all by going dirt bike riding within the mountains of your greater L.A. region, one off season, only to have had a horrific biking accident which tore his knee to shreads. That would have been it, BUT *Reed Sunahara it currently the winningest coach in program history at the University of Cincinnati. He has risin their volleyball to unprecedented heights during his ten seasons as head coach. Women's~ (not Ah Mow, not Danielson) #1 = BE 'PELE' BAKER (legit) 5'10", OPP-lefty, 36" vert.; 1992 NJCAA POY (Eastern AZ); multi JO All-Am. 14s, 16s & 18s; Fab 50 graduate out of McKinley High ('92); 1st team high school All-Am.; Sports Illustrated--now vaulted--"Faces in the Crowd" for being an all state high school BB player, as well. *She and Robyn would set one another, exclusively, on their Kamali'i Club Team to win national events such as JOs and (what was then) Davis Festival. --Audi--

[Interestingly]...WHEN THE PRGM, ALL THE WAY AROUND, WAS A (AVCA) TOP 15 TEAM: Both would be three year starters on their respective teams..both were Fab 50 selections out of HS (He from St. Luis-All boys school in 2001, She from Kamehameha-Kapalama in 1992)..both were AVCA Honorees (He--@ 6'3"--played Opp, She--@ 6'1'--played MB)..both would end up back in the islands (upon Oahu) after college. Brian Zodrow ~ Now a star on Kailua VB Club *winning many a local tournament...most importantly The Haili Tourney (time and again)* Rebecca Downey~ Yes, she'd return 'home' but not before being selected a 1st Team All Big West selection in '95.
