UCI , BYU , Pepperdine have all clinched MPSF playoff berths , Hawaii with 1 more win will also clinch . UCLA is holding on by the seat of their pants with the # 8 seed at this point . If they win all the rest of their games it should close out Pacific and USC . UCSD with no chance . Oh yea Stanford with 14 losses is all but out of it too.

Hawaii's already in it with their win over Pacific last night!
So that's 4 in and 4 to go right? .......or is it 5 to go?

Yes sir , you are right !! 4 to go . #7 & # 8 have a play-in game .
then # 2 vs # 7 # 3 vs # 6 # 4 vs # 5 # 1 gets bye for 1st round , then hosts the tournament

If UCI loses one more game, and Hawaii wins the rest of theirs, Hawaii will host the tournament. Surely the Anteaters would like a trip to Hawaii, right?

We already have to deal with the Final Four being back east (for two years!), having the MPSF Championships out of state also would be too much. There should change the by-laws to prevent something like that happening....

Playoff race still looks relatively close. UCI needs to get by Long Beach on Saturday, but will be one of the top 2 seeds, if not the top seed for the tournament. Hawaii at worst will be #3, as they probably wont lose to Stanford or UCSD and will only get pushed down by BYU. Pepperdine also looks like a solid top 4 seed, with a fairly easy schedule. Long Beach and BYU will have a criticial set of matches next week. BYU could go as high as the #2 seed or as low as the #5 seed. Long Beach could stay in the top 4 or get pushed down with loses to BYU and UCI. UCSB and Northridge are almost locks in the MPSF tournament but have a couple of rough teams to play. That counts for 7 teams. That last one is up in the open between UCLA, USC, and possibly Pacific.

You know, I think that Northridge has proven itself worthy as a legit threat to UCI after that upset at the Pyramid. So the Anteaters will have two key upcoming matches. Hawaii is expected to beat UCSD and Stanford. Those BYU games at the end will be very critical. I say if Hawaii at least wins one(of the 2) matches, they clinch at least a 2nd seed. BYU needs to dodge the Beach before Hawaii in order to stay in the Top 3 picture. Pepp and LBSU have distanced themselves enough (from the top 3 teams) to really be considered as threats. They along with Northridge will be battling it out for Nos. 4-6 The final spots will be up to UCLA, USC, and UOP. Something tells me that that big UCLA upset to USC earlier this season will be key to who makes it and who doesn't. I see SC sneaking by...

The only hope for men's volleyball expansion is for the midwest and east coast citizens of America to see the final four. Don't be surprised to come out this way and hear people claim....."there is such things as men's volleyball?"

They need to start marketing, now. At the end of two upcoming years of FFs East of the Rockies, and sub FF teams playing in the FF to pump up the volume, I hope something comes of it for expansion and the creation of a legitimate last four best teams playing for the championship.

It was sold out at Long Beach , but they had the city chamber involved and really marketed the games both times it has been held there recently .
The problem with having it at Pauly is there isn't any outside marketing other than the school and they do a horrible job of it.
Penn State always seems to fill it up .
the Midwest hosts always have trouble filling the seats .

Time to bring this thread back to the top. CSUN clinched their playoff spot with their win on Friday night against UCSB.
5 spots down (UCI, BYU, Pepperdine, Hawaii, and CSUN) 3 to go.

If my math is correct, with the conclusion of the UCSB win over USC last night one more team has clinched a spot in the MPSF tourney. Long Beach is now in the playoffs.
So, here are the playoff bound teams: UCI @ 16-2 with 4 matches to go (Pacific, Stanford, CSUN, UCSB) Hawaii 15-3 with 4 matches to go (UCSD x 2, BYU x 2) BYU 14-4 with 4 matches to go (Long Beach x2, Hawaii x 2) Pepperdine 13-7 with 2 matches to go (UCSB, USC) CSUN 12-7 with 3 matches to go (USC, UCI, UCLA) Long Beach 10-8 with 4 matches to go (BYU x 2, Pacific, Stanford)
Here are the four still battling it out for the last two spots, but it will soon be decided (probably this weekend): UCSB 9-10 with 3 matches to go (Pepperdine, UCLA, UCI) UCLA 8-10 with 4 matches to go (Stanford, Pacific, UCSB, CSUN) USC 7-13 with 2 matches to go (CSUN, Pepperdine) Pacific 5-13 with 4 matches to go (UCI, UCLA, CSULB, UCSD)
USC and Pacific mathematically are still in the hunt. Their chances are not looking very good considering who they have left to play and tie-breaking procedures between the various teams. But you never know.
It will be interesting to see who ends up in what position! Some great volleyball matches coming up in the near future!

As of tonight we have the final eight! We just don't know where everyone will finish next week. Congrats go out to UCSB and UCLA who are now both in the playoffs. USC and Pacific both lost tonight which mathematically eliminates them both from the playoffs.
So, here are the playoff bound teams as of 10:00pm Pacific Daylight time with their current record and their remaining matches: UCI @ 17-2 with 3 matches to go (Stanford, CSUN, UCSB) Hawaii 15-3 with 4 matches to go (UCSD x 2, BYU x 2) BYU 14-6 with 2 matches to go (Hawaii x 2) Pepperdine 13-7 with 2 matches to go (UCSB, USC) CSUN 13-7 with 2 matches to go (UCI, UCLA) Long Beach 12-8 with 2 matches to go (Pacific, Stanford) UCSB 9-10 with 3 matches to go (Pepperdine, UCLA, UCI) UCLA 9-10 with 3 matches to go (Pacific, UCSB, CSUN)
This next week will be very exciting to see how it all plays out.
