USC plays NAIA #1 ranked Cal Baptist tonight at the USC North gym. Should be an interesting match. Tomorrow Cal Baptist plays Pepperdine at Pepperdine.

Cal Baptist just too much.....should they go NCAA and join the MPSF they would make the conference tourny.

Some years I would agree with you , but , if they went D-1 they would have totally new guidelines / rules for recruiting . Then they wouldn't be able to get some of the foreign behemoths they have had in recent years . It would be great to see what they could do . Cal Baptist just too much.....should they go NCAA and join the MPSF they would make the conference tourny.

NAIA's top team takes down Trojans Cal Baptist sweeps the No. 9 USC men's volleyball team
The No. 9 USC men's volleyball team lost to Cal Baptist, 3-0 (30-28, 30-26, 31-29), in the North Gym yesterday. The match was the Trojans' (11-15) last at home this season.
USC relied on consistent serving to keep pace with Cal Baptist (17-7) during each of the three games, but ultimately could not defend their attack, as Cal Baptist hit .462 and recorded 58 kills. Three Lancers had double-digit kill totals, and Cal Baptist had four players hit over .400.
"(The Lancers) were so physical; they were hitting over us with a lot of force," USC coach Turhan Douglas said. "We couldn't handle their attack."
Cal Baptist, ranked No. 1 in the Tachikara National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Men's Top 10 Poll, also dominated on serve, where they had six aces. Lancers junior opposite hitter Shamsu Awudu led all players with 20 kills and three aces.
"There are very few teams that do what they can do," Douglas said.
The Trojans were overmatched at the net, where Cal Baptist hit over USC's blockers with ease. USC could not dig enough shots, as their defense struggled to keep up with the pace of the Lancer attackers.
"You play your defense around the block. You don't play your defense over the block or right behind the block normally, and they were hitting balls over us and right behind the block," Douglas said. "Our defense wasn't in the right spots."
On Tuesday, Douglas stressed the importance of defense and serving to the Trojans' success in this match, but USC was overmatched on both ends. The Trojans registered just 17 digs, resulting in fewer chances for the Trojans' attack. The Trojans hit a respectable .310, but had only 46 kills.
USC committed just eight service errors, but served only three aces, two of which came in the last game.
The Trojans viewed this match as a chance to play against an elite team without the added pressure of the match counting towards the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation standings.
"It was good, tough competition for us," Douglas said.
"The match doesn't really count for anything, so it was good experience."
Cal Baptist plays in the NAIA and is not affiliated with an athletic conference.
MPSF Player of the Week sophomore outside hitter Juan Figueroa led the Trojans with 14 kills and junior middle blocker Matt Mosko had seven kills and no attack errors. Senior outside hitter Joao Grangeiro had nine kills and four digs in his last match at home.
The Trojans' final three matches of the season are all on the road; USC next plays No. 7 UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday in the Thunderdome at 7 p.m.
