All I have to say is that I don't think it is going to be as easy as everyone thinks...IPFW is playing with a lot of heart. They have a shot and I don't think they should be counted out of this game by any means.

IPFW has no clue what they are about to face. They do have a great coach and a good player (Macias). Their Libero is crap, against Loyola and BSU he was not their primary passer or serve receive person. The middle (Big Red??), only slaps at the ball cross court and those Cali boys will dig him all day long.
IPFW has NO chance against UCLA.

UCLA's coaching staff and players should know better than to underestimate an opponent. I'm sure Al Scates will have them ready for Thursday's semi-final match.

ilvball - I would say that IPFW most definitely knows what they are up against. They went to 5 with Ball State, then beat Loyola at home. As tough as those wins were, IPFW knows that beating UCLA will require so much more. Now, whether their game can stand up against UCLA is another matter. But since they were prepared to play and beat Loyola, I am sure that they will spend this week preparing for UCLA. That is what a great coach (your words) does. IPFW passes three, and the libero is one of those three. While he did not pass the majority of Loyola's serves (since the majority went into the net), he did pass a lot of freeballs and made enough touches on defense for IPFW to win the transition points. Better than Ker? No way. Top Ten? I don't think so, based upon the liberos I am familiar with, but he played better than Thuet (sp).

spcttr- You must be an IPFW fan. Yes the whole board knows that Loyola choked and the choked last year. Here is the #1 fact against IPFW. They are not a west coast caliber team. The only person that even comes close is Macias and he is hot and cold. IPFW would not have beat Loyola without him.
I wish them well, but they don't really have much of a chance.

I guess I am, but not one that would consistently defend them regardless of the situation. And I am not one to stand up and say Loyola choked. Were the odds in their favor? I would say yes. Do I see them as more talented across the board? Yes, but I do think IPFW was playing very good volleyball as the season closed out. I would rather give IPFW credit for seizing the opportunity and playing better as a team. I have never played D-1 volleyball, or coached at that level, so I can only make statements on what I see. And that night, the IPFW libero was not "crap." Also, in my eyes, IPFW was ready (Game 1 blowout) and tougher mentally (games 3 and 4). And to me, that means they were prepared for Loyola.
I would expect the same to be true, as far as preparation, when they play UCLA, but you are right that they are not the same caliber as the majority of MPSF programs. To say that is delusional. But to say they have no idea what they are up against is, to me, ridiculous. Klosterman, Scott and George just bring too much for IPFW to handle. And Ker is heads and shoulders above any defensive player on IPFW's roster.

Hey Sanchez,
The Bruins have never lost in the semifinals and have won 18 national titles, by far more than any other school.
Records are made to be broken........any chance you can be calling the lines for this semi!

True UCLA can get past the semis.....and they hold the Über record of hoist to the rafters.....but they will have to do it without me calling lines.....good call there......
I love upsets though...always have......
Now clue me in to where you were during the '94 match so I might figure out who you are....

I was sitting on the bench, same place I was in '93 when we lost to BSU in the conference finals. I think I figured out who you are...former line judge, right? Any idea what Stang is up to?

IPFW in 4 - I think that IPFW will be well prepared and ready to play. I think the middles for IPFW will be fine against UCLA - Serdar is a 1 st teamer and big "red" is playing like one right now regardless if he is just "slapping the ball"
Macias will have a big day and IPFW wins a thriller!!!!
