I'm ready to change, again.
Anybody with strong recommendations? or disapprovals?

Really? I don't need something that actually costs me money?

Avast has a free version that works very well. You only need to register with your e-mail.

Were you serious about this? I am trying it out and so far I'm not overly impressed by my system performance or by the protection (although it did tell me it found the Trojans when it scanned, why did it allow them to infect my computer in the first place?). My other concern is that it is this (VT) site that is infecting my PC.

I don't know how. All I know is I keep finding Trojans when I scan. I found them with my previous software and now with Microsoft Security Essentials. There are weird things that happen with the ads on this site.

I have some serious problems with my computer. Somebody just called ME about it. I have no idea if he was legit or not.
Something nasty is going on ...

Our IT provider at work uses Malwarebytes. (free!)
Install it in regular mode and run it in safe mode.
(To get your computer in safe mode, hit f8 repeatedly while it is booting and then select safe mode.)
They said a lot of software that is good at detecting is not good at deleting.

I think VT is infecting my mac too.
for some reason, the site keeps appearing in my browser.
