when you heard that John Lennon was shot?
I was out studying and when I walked in to Allen Hall on the University of Illinois campus, the least trustworthy, lying sack of crap told me the news. Of course I didn't believe him.
I went to muy buddy's room and they were showing footage of people in front of the Dakota, then, I knew it was true.

I think I was asleep when this happened. I know I went to school that morning and people were talking about it. I was in the 7th grade at Punahou at the time.

Heard on my car radio while doing Christmas shopping. Never really cared for John Lennon as a solo artist, but I love The Beatles.
We did go see where he was killed in NYC on our trip last spring, and the "Strawberry Fields" in Central Park.

This happened 2 1/2 years before I was born; and I can't remember when I first learned about it.

This happened 2 1/2 years before I was born; and I can't remember when I first learned about it. I wasn't born yet either. I remember in 1995 (when I was 9) going to the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame and listening to the red Beatles compilation album in the store. I listened to the entire two discs in one sitting dancing around with the headphones on while the rest of my family went off and did something else. That night, my dad dug his old Beatles albums out of storage and told me all about his favorite songs and stuff. Sometime in that conversation, he casually mentioned John was dead and I was devastated.

I remember seeing a mob of people crying on TV, on the news, but I do not remember the exact moment I found out.

I was a Resident Adviser at the Fontainebleau Off-campus Apartments at UCSB. I was never a big fan of solo Lennon either, but still it was just devastating. He was such a part of the world I grew up in.

I was watching Monday Night Football in my $135/month apartment. I got to hear the news from Howard Cossell.
(I see Don Meredith died this week. Tangentially to the above comment.)

Don Meredith died tangentially? How terrible for him.

Hey, I specifically made that a separate sentence to avoid that smartass comment. Still didn't work.

(I see Don Meredith died this week.) Oh, that's just dandy. (It had to be said. Sorry.)
