Confirmed that the Women's hoops game v. Oregon, on Friday the 8th, will be held in Santa Cruz;
Sunday vs OSU is postponed due to C-19. Perhaps WVB will make Santa Cruz their home-away-from...

Back to Stanford looks like the team is gathering. Where will they play and practice? So they are locked out of practicing using their own facilities due to very restrictive CV-19 rules in Santa Clara County? Can they get a waiver? That seems really unlikely since neither the men's nor women's basketball teams have played in SCC. They're both playing at Kaiser Permenante Stadium in Santa Cruz. I know there's more contact in BB but the SCC order prohibits sports where you cant maintain social distancing. SCC's travel restrictions (requiring all opponents outside 150 miles to quarantine for 14 days) also apply. Further, under CA's rules, if the area's ICU capacity is <15%, hotels can only accept ppl from outside the state if they quarantine in the hotel for 14 days (almost the same as SCC's order). If the area's ICU capacity is <15%, CA also prohibits gatherings with members of other households "except as necessary to conduct activities associated with the operation, maintenance, or usage of critical infrastructure,[1] as required by law, or as specifically permitted in this order."
I don't see how they can play non-California teams under either set of guidelines as long as ICU capacity is <15% (per CA's calculation). Under CA's order, I don't think they can even play CA teams or practice if ICU capacity is < 15%. It's a "gathering with members of other households" and it's not expressly allowed. It's also outside "their place of residence" and not "specifically permitted in this order". Outdoor recreation is ok but ppl in different households are supposed to stay 6' apart. Maybe the fall under the exception for professional sports but the guidelines only talk about outdoor sports. Still, Newsom has said he wants pro sports.
I'd guess that if Stanford could, e.g., get around the restrictions by practicing and playing in Menlo Park or Redwood City, the BB teams would have done that instead of staying out of SCC to avoid triggering its order. Unless things improve so that CA's order isn't triggered, it seems like they'll have to do what the BB teams are doing and play most games out of state but maybe play other CA teams in Santa Cruz or other somewhat nearby location.
SCC:
"Professional, Collegiate, and Youth Sports: All recreational activities that involve physical contact or close proximity to persons outside one’s household, including all contact sports, will be temporarily prohibited. People can continue to engage in outdoor athletics and recreation where social distancing can be maintained at all times. . . .
Hotels and Other Lodging Facilities: Hotels and other lodging facilities will be open only for essential travel and for use to facilitate isolation or quarantine. . . .
The Health Officer is also issuing a Mandatory Directive on Travel, which strongly discourages leisure and non-essential travel, and requires persons entering the county to quarantine for 14 days upon return from travel of more than 150 miles.
CA:
"2. CDPH will evaluate the adult ICU bed capacity for each Region and identify on covid19.ca.gov any Regions for which that capacity is less than 15%. When that capacity is less than 15%, the following terms (the Terms of this Order) will apply.
a. All gatherings with members of other households are prohibited in the Region except as expressly permitted herein.
b. All individuals living in the Region shall stay home or at their place of residence except as necessary to conduct activities associated with the operation, maintenance, or usage of critical infrastructure,[1] as required by law, or as specifically permitted in this order. . . . .
g. To promote and protect the physical and mental well-being of people in California, outdoor recreation facilities may continue to operate. Those facilities may not sell food or drink for on-site consumption. Overnight stays at campgrounds are not permitted.
h. Nothing in this Order prevents any number of persons from the same household from leaving their residence, lodging, or temporary accommodation, as long as they do not engage in any interaction with (or otherwise gather with) any number of persons from any other household, except as specifically permitted herein.
3. Except as otherwise required by law, no hotel or lodging entity in California shall accept or honor out of state reservations for non-essential travel, unless the reservation is for at least the minimum time period required for quarantine and the persons identified in the reservation will quarantine in the hotel or lodging entity until after that time period has expired."

Well now...after posting that the remaining home games for both WBB and MBB teams would be held at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, the AD site now shows only the UW (1/7) and WSU (1/9) games for the men; the Oregon (1/8) game for the women confirmed as of right now. Who knows what changed during the day? We'll see if WVB practices and matches happen there.

Yes I agree with this. Berty could be a sleeper pick too she has a lot of heat Going to be a very young team in the fall... Yes forsure... Low key would love to see Kipp on the left with Baird/Berty on the right. Maybe with the right side receiving serve in some rotations. But I think the most conventional/sensible lineup has McClure/Baird (or Berty) as left sides and Kipp on the right. Kipp has the vert to match with her height which is pretty special so I am excited to see her role. Plus the battle for the middle spot , Xu starting for her first year, and Oglivie/Lougeay as the DSs... will be both exciting and a test for hambly

I would love to see Kipp getting some responsibility in serve receive even if she's on the right side but I think that might be asking for too much lol. I actually think the middle/libero/DS situation is most interesting. Oglivie is the presumptive starter at libero but I'm interested to see how she and Lougeay bolster the serve receive especially with Oglivie playing a new role as Libero. At middle, there really are options and I think with new defenders Hambly will prioritize the better blocker. I would say Vicini has the advantage there especially since L. Smith won't have a ton of experience yet.

Stanford ranked #3 behind Wisconsin and Texas in the AVCA Preseason Poll.
I would love us to be #1 at some point but this seems a bit high for this young group. Nebraska is #5 and returns everyone from last year

Nebraska is #5 and returns everyone from last year The AVCA coaches are a lazy bunch and almost always rank the returning NCAA champion too high, especially when they've lost a bunch of talented seniors.
