In case no one noticed, in the Cal match, Hambly experimented with a two person receive using only Oglivie and Baird when Beaven wasn't in the back row. It seemed to work out ok for the most part. Minnesota will eat that up for breakfast. Paraphrasing from THE ART OF WAR, the more the enemy has to prepare for credible potential strategies, the better...

Looking at Iowa State's record, they haven't fared well against top teams as they were swept by Penn St and Minnesota. Against Texas (at home) they lost 3-1 and 3-0. The Cyclones were able to hold up against lesser opponents fairly well though.
Iowa State's senior setter, 6'0 Jayden Newsome is a pretty talented all around player. They also have a senior MB, 6'1 Candelaria Herrera who has good hitting and blocking numbers. Senior RS hitter 6'1 Eleanor Holthaus is their kill leader. And, it looks like their senior L, Marija Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia), has some very good DPS numbers.
Notice, that all of ISU's leaders are seniors, which is a bit of red flag for Stanford. I think they'll be well prepared to exploit Stanford's floor D.

It's just too easy to exploit Stanford's floor D. I'm just hoping the Card don't go down in 3.

Really? I would be very surprised if not shocked if the Cardinal did not sweep the Cyclones.

They may or may not blow through Minnesota. But going past Wisconsin is going to be tough.

I think the easiest path for Stanford to get into final 4 is: - They beat Minnie - WSU beats Baylor - Stanford beats WSU - UCLA beats Wisconsin - Stanford beats UCLA
They’re capable of beating any PAC-12 team out there except Washington lol. The path to final 4 relies on a lot of upsets though. I’d be happy if they can just get past Minnesota, and I think they can if their passing and blocking hold up well.

Is this best case scenario, or what you think is realistic? UCLA couldn't win at USC; they aren't winning at Wisconsin (assuming they get there).

Yes it’s fun to speculate… but getting past Iowa State and Minnesota is going to be tough. Unless Oglivie and co. channel their inner Hentz, it’s safer to expect a second round loss

Was watching the selection special and they spent a bunch of time talking about "super seniors" who have had 6 years of college. I think Wisconsin had something like 6 of them.
We have only one senior who plays and she is a traditional 4th year senior. Outside of her our whole team that plays is in their first year of eligibility other than Kipp who is in her second.
We are a very very young team that will get better....

I can see WSU taking out Baylor perhaps. Less likely I think is UCLA taking out Wisc.
Let's get past Iowa St, then go all out on Minnie. Tentative Stanford won't beat Minnie unless the Gophers have one of their weird, uninspired matches. Don't count on that.

IMHO UCLA's shine this year is due to Stanford and USC playing below their traditional levels.

Oglivie and company just don't have it in them.
I'll remain positive about their chances of beating a senior laden Iowa State team.
But I'm realistic about their chances against Minnesota. I'm just hoping The Card have a good showing.
**** Does anyone notice how much coaching Hambly gives the front row (especially the Middles), in between serves? I'm wondering if that's disruptive for the players. I don't see the head coaches from Texas, Minn, Wisc, Neb, Penn State, etc. doing this. They seem to have confidence in their players by letting them do their thing. ****
