Kurt is solid, but will likely struggle to find playing time in the Stanford line up for a while. It will take some time for her to adjust to the American style of play. And she’s an Opposite, so will be waiting behind at least Kipp. I have to ask: What is the American style of play and how does it differ from the European style? Also, I agree that it will be very hard for a freshman to beat out Baird if she's healthy. American NCAA volleyball is so specialized, just in recent years thanks to PLUMMER, the woman are taking more gnarly rips out of system. On average in NCAA women we’re being taught to keep the ball in play out of system and try to have your defense win out. European volleyball they are hitting the absolute sh*t out of the ball out of system. Plummer mentioned in one of her day in the life Stanford episodes that she watched and studied men’s professional volleyball players in order to become a better attacker. She also mentioned that Hambly and her decided her Jr. Or senior year that she was going to put heat on pretty much every ball out of system. I really credit her for revolutionizing the attacking pin positions here in the NCAA’s.

I hope Miner models her game more after the Goat. Alisha Glass was simple yet aggressive and very efficient. I thinks that’s what Kami will need with this crop of players. Former mens all American &UH setter Joe Worsley said on a recent pod cast that at Hawaii on the men’s side they teach to pass balls right on top of the net to turn the setters into options. I feel like with Kamis physicality, We need to do that more too. I still prefer Nusara Tomkom. Her set was so unpredictable and often fooled the blockers. She also had varieties of serves to ace the opponents like at the beginning of this video. So much fun to watch.

Baird 2021: 4.24 KPS, .284, .55 BPS, 2.15 DPS Baird 2022: 3.32 KPS, .246, .60 BPS, 1.97 DPS My perception is that Baird served better in 2022 and her serve reception was better also, but I don't have the VolleyMetrics numbers to prove it. IMO, if Baird can return to her 2021 hitting form (or close), then she will keep her spot as a starter. The pre-conference schedule will have plenty of tough opponents so it will be a good proving ground. Mostly what I remember about Baird's serving this year is some long runs at crucial times; there was the beginning of the 5th set against Washington (8-0), same against USC (5 or 6 points), and one in the tournament that capped a first set comeback (against Houston?). Personally, I would rate the likelihood of her being beat out by a freshman extremely low. I can actually get behind you saying that her serving improved because it did. Everything else though, not so much. Let's be real, if we're talking about a back row rotation where Baird is at her best, we've got some major problems.

So much fun to watch. she's sensational, but her style of play is so curated to her individual strengths and those of her teammates. Thailands attackers are much quicker than Stanfords so they can run these weird plays and have girls flying all over the place on offense. miner should be watching glass, pouter, and carlini... setters who are similar to her physically. also, karch would never play a tomkom style setter

Agree ^^ Tom Kom reminds me of another NCAA great, Nellie Spicer from UCLA. Loved watching Spicer.
Anyways back to Miner, boy oh by is she going to be even more AMAZING but the time she’s a senior. Yikes!

I feel like us Stanford fans are sitting in the classroom looking out the window as the others fans are outside playing in the sandbox.

I feel like us Stanford fans are sitting in the classroom looking out the window as the others fans are outside playing in the sandbox. We're pretty much set for next season. We get a head start on the season with the Euro trip too. What concerns me the most is our middle blocking situation. Specifically, Francis in and out of the lineup and not be able to train and improve was an issue. I think that was certainly a factor in the loss to USD. I'm hoping Francis can get into shape during the off season, build some muscle and speed, and become a force nationally. We are going to be good, very good, but what happens in the middle might determine whether we win another national championship.

I was hoping we could pick up a middle somehow just to have the extra depth in case.

Stanford doesn't get to play in the portal, but they do get to recruit a bunch of high level players and not have to worry at all about them leaving for other programs, even the ones who are backups. It would be borderline nuts to give up the Stanford degree.

Stanford football just got a player thru the portal. Our first. So it could happen. However I don’t believe we have a scholarship to offer.

I wonder how many players have said no to full ride offers from stanford and who they were. there's a lot of players they can't even offer if their academics won't line up
