No way a freshman whose name is not Torrey Stafford starts over Baird, at least at the beginning of the season. Is she even considering Stanford?

Not sure how many follow Chad Gordon on twitter. Here is his rating of OH for 2022:
He has Baird as the #11 in the NCAA and Rubin as #15. This is just hitting but I am not sure a freshman is really going to come in and start over Baird.
FWIW, here is his ranking of MB:
Totally shocked to see Vincini as #8. Francis didn't have enough attempts but she would be higher. I thought of MB as our weakness.

^ I hear this chadgordon guy is a hack.
but FWIW, if you lower the threshold to 100 attempts, Francis comes in at #33. She hit 0.303 in-system and added 0.07 points per attack over expectation (players are ranked by this EPA metric on the list)
Maybe she gets some slack since it's her first year in the middle?

Francis was in and out of the lineup last year due to some undisclosed health issue. She had a lot of down time in which she couldn't practice/lift weights/get on a treadmill/etc., and it affected her endurance and ability to get into playing shape. IMO, if she can get in a spring and summer of good training, that could go a long way to improving those numbers substantially.

Any chance Kurt would redshirt, if she is playing behind Kipp? I'm going to guess yes because she is likely to major in one of the engineering programs, probably mechanical. Five years to complete four and take some graduate courses might not be a bad idea for her. Whether she is playing behind Kipp is TBD. She can play both left and right side, so maybe she comes in and is so impressive on the left that she pushes Baird out or her starting position. Anyway, from my perspective, I look at it as a fluid situation.

I'm missing a couple matches of data. and In-Sys Eff doesn't include the overpasses she hit (where she hit like 0.700)

Not sure why Vincini is higher in system versus Francis much lower. Seems like you are missing a fair amount of data....

Hate that I spent so much time on this, but needed to make sure I wasn't crazy.
player_name input_type eff count 1 Mckenna Vicini attack_overpass 0.2608696 23 2 Mckenna Vicini attack_regular 0.4457831 249 3 Mckenna Vicini attack_weird -0.3333333 3 4 Sami Francis attack_overpass 0.6666667 12 5 Sami Francis attack_regular 0.3032787 122
idk how to make a table in here... but moral is that Vicini isn't great at hitting overpasses, so that hurt her total eff when compared to just her in-sys eff (when she hits in-sys, off a setter) Francis is awesome at overpasses and this raises her total eff to .335 compared to in-system, which was only 0.303
this data comes from all 20 pac12 conference matches + their 4 ncaa tournament matches (of which, Francis only played in 9)
(attack weird, means it's not an overpass, but the touch before the attack wasn't a set)
I hope we all feel better about the numbers now haha

Got a chance to check out the girls in Anaheim today. Kipp was the best player on the floor by a mile it wasn’t even close. She’s so physical and what I liked seeing was her use a variety of shots. High hands, Tool, Jam, hard cross, line, 10ft and pretty much OTT. It was so good to see her excel and Karch sort of looked to her for a lot of feedback. Ogilvie was a rock in reception she sort of fly under the radar because she makes everything look so easy, good positioning and reads the ball so well. Not going to jinx Baird but she looked better than NCAA season last year at times she was hitting these gnarly angles that made people gasp. If she plays like the way she did this upcoming NCAA season no one is taking her slot. The USA 0 tempo offense suited her game today. Kami was Kami.. consistent and very physical.
A few other players that made my Jaw drop.
Jess Muzrik, I’ve never seen her play before but have always heard the hype… well NOW I BELIEVE IT she’s a HAMMAH, so so aggressive if she can learn to pass consistently she will be a star on the USA team.
Minnesotas setter, she surprised me. Her flow, location looked so elite at times and she sets very aggressively to the middle as well.
