No one has mentioned this but Cawa started really erratic in serve-receive but improved that and passed really well towards the end of the 4th set.

Love the fire. Love Rubin i think she has more of Logan Tom vibes especially Logan Tom's Stanford days... build and look <3 I wonder if Ipar Kurt will get a look on the RS once Julia Blyashov comes back... she has Opposite international experience. But I'm enjoying what I'm seeing especially in week one. Go Card! Tbh I’d keep Harvey on the floor for her serve lol

Rubin actually smiles from time to time.

Thank you to those who mentioned that this year’s Stanford team has a different level of intensity, grit, and competitive flair that last year’s team lacked. That was one of the first things I noticed during the Minnesota match. As far as their demeanors, Baird and Kipp were very pleasant players lmfao and at times seemed complacent and were kinda just there to play and go wherever the match took them. Although this year’s team may not be as physically gifted as 2022 and 2023, I don’t see them lacking in fire. Especially with miss Elia leading the charge out there. And that will take them far Kipp and Baird "very pleasant players?" How good would this team be with both of them? Especially Kipp? Yes, the d was excellent, and I loved the way they finished the matches, but c'mon. How far is no blocking going to take them? They didn't even block well against Milwaukee! I'm encouraged by the fact that Hambly has been a good blocking coach, so maybe he can turn them around. Anyway, damn were those two matches fun to watch!

Blocking is the result of having two middles who aren't very quick laterally. Kipp was an excellent blocker, but if she were on the roster this year, she isn't going to help solve our blocking woes. The knock on Kipp (and to some extent on Baird) is that they really lacked urgency and as leaders, it's tough to motivate your team. Kipp was a fantastic player, but really had a hard time closing out matches when Stanford needed her to (the USD match two years ago comes to mind). Physically, I don't think we are as talented as in previous years, but I think the new found "fire" brought on by Rubin & Co. more than make up for it. Our blocking is definitely going to be an issue, but if the middles can't close the gap, not sure what you can do about that.

I will never question Kipp and Baird as far as their talent cause they were fantastic, but from what we could see as viewers, their leadership and on court demeanor left a little to be desired at times. So even though this year’s team maybe isn’t as physical or athletically gifted as last year’s, I think they are a couple steps above in terms of mental toughness and grit

I hope we are now done blaming Kipp and Baird for not getting national championships the past two seasons. Moving on to the current season please

Anyone know where to find tickets to the Texas game? Or if they’re not available, when they will be? Looked the Stanford site and couldn’t find any links

No thread on the Marquette match or is it buried in one of these early tournament threads? Anyway, I've said don't overblow the early matches, but I find the woeful blocking to be concerning. I think against Marquette they had two blocks. I've noticed as other have commented that the middles aren't closing well, but that doesn't explain the overall crappy blocking. What gives?
