I hope we heavily recruit a top libero for 2028. The last high ranked libero that came to Stanford was Oglvie. (2020) Don't you mean 2029? Etzler in theory should be our L for years 2025 through 2028.

It’s my understanding (and correct me if I’m wrong) that Etzler and Roslon were both undersized OHs identified for L/DS because of their passing abilities. However, defense remains a question and are we assuming that it will develop throughout their collegiate careers? I’m not familiar how well Oglivie’s defense was her freshman year Recruited for passing is what I understood, too. But if they can't find a libero they like -- which is a crazy idea -- either of those two could handle the job. That's basically correct. Etzler is considered to be an elite passer at the club and HS level. Etzler is somewhat like Oglivie coming into the collegiate game because she's trained and played as a left side hitter. Oglivie kept improving as a floor defender throughout her collegiate career and the hope is that Etzler will do the same.

I’m done grieving over Real. This time it won’t hit me hard like with T. Harvey lol Im confused... has she taken stanford out of consideration? She is still uncommitted Last I heard, she is making a campus visit to Stanford in August along with 3 other campus visits after this. She hasn't given any indication of leaning towards any of those 4 programs, nor ruling out any of them. Patience, it is probably going to be a long time (October) before we know more.

Yeah makes sense, I’m wary of how elite Etzler can be at L, Oglivie was on USA U teams and a 3x Gatorade state player of the year as an outside which is a testament to her great athleticism, I was happy to see Etzler get the UA all American nod and also the AVCA HS 3rd team but definitely not the same compared to where Oglivie and Hentz were entering their freshman year, I did see that she’s gonna be #9 tho so maybe that’ll carry good luck for continuing our #9 conference libero of the year legacy hahahahahh

No students on campus in August and no home matches in August either so will strictly be seeing campus and meeting players and coaches it seems, might be for the better cause we pale in comparison to the crowds that other schools can bring although the Texas game last year was a good size. I’m fearful if the intention is to bring her to a football game tho, that would honestly worsen our chances when experiencing ours vs Texas or Wisconsin lol

I’m hoping to attend the open practice and BBQ for season ticket holders on 8/14 and will try to report back any observations/comments from Hambly. Hope you make the open practice. Reading about the open practice and Hambly’s comments is the next big event on my 2025 WVB timeline. I’d like to attend but my health won’t allow it.

What do we think about our #6 ranking? A little high. So many new important pieces need time to come together.

What do we think about our #6 ranking? I’d probably put them just outside of the top 10 at the start - replacing Kami, Sami and Elena won’t be easy. However, we have loaded with a talented class and I imagine they will end up as a top 8 team at the end of this season. It’s so hard to predict whether Blyashov will finally get the start or do we keep Rubin-Kurt-Harvey as the trio. Either way, we have Andrew in the middle for 3 more years and have been busy with USA volleyball (started over Ayden Ames - Texas). Go Card!

This is not meant as a rip in any way on Blyashov and meant as legitimate curiosity --what has kept people so high on the possibility of her taking a starting spot from the returning trio? She has been injured so has obviously been limited, but outside of that she hasn’t shown out in any way since arriving at Stanford. Her frosh year she did play at the beginning of the season for 3 matches, had considerable passing woes, and was horrendous against Florida — ultimately being pulled and replaced by Harvey who completely outshined her that match. That’s all we have seen of her live. Rubin is a returning All-American, and Kurt was playing better than Rubin offensively by the end of the season as a redshirt freshman and drastically improved her defense as the year progressed. So, it always kind of makes me feel like I must be missing something obvious when people consistently bring up this hope of Blyashov replacing one of the two. Share to give any insight of what in the last two years gives so much hope for Blyashov, or is it solely based on her high ranking coming out of high school?

I think her hype is coming from her ranking out of high school and the multiple Team USA youth rosters she has made. I don’t think it’s fair to judge her based off one game vs Florida when she was a freshman two years ago. Injuries kept her from playing last year, but I remain hopeful that she will shine. Time will tell.

Circling back to recruiting Real… and the topic of football being in question: as a hot take I feel like the Stanford people typically don’t watch much football to begin with , they’re too busy with their respective research project etc. also even in schools like Nebraska, you barely get any football games in because you’re in your own practice so it’s not like our athletes will be missing out on much.
