In my opinion, we just need to secure at least a top OH for 2016 and we will be good until 2017. Vanjak and Brown should compete for the starting OHs/Opp spot after 2015, with Hodson having a year of experience also by that time. What I am worried about are the MBs, no MB for 2014, nothing for 2015 also. Hopefully Fitzmorris will be going to Stanford by 2016. After the graduation of Ajanaku and Mcgehee, we will only be left with one MB: Lutz. Or probably Dunning and the coaching staff are looking at foreign recruits? Stanford is in trouble right now, but two big recruits can turn the tables, and we all know who they are. If there is a "foreign surprise" then perhaps Stanford can be competitive beyond 2015.

I don't see why Stanford doesn't go after foreign students. It seems as though it could be a slam dunk for them once they open the flood gate.

You guys need to chill. Not getting Lanier is not the end of the world. Hodson's better. Chill.

Anyone really watched Hodson lately? Seemed like she was hurt for most of club season.

They're gonna be playing at least one hitter who is a level below. Yeah they'll still have good players, but Dunning wasn't recruiting her for %*$#s and giggles. Hodson's also 2 years and a couple of months older than Lanier, with a lot of high level experience, so it's not exactly shocking if she's somewhat better (offensively) right now.

The point is Stanford needs more than Hodson in 2016 going forward. Most likely some elite 2017 recruits will appear out of nowhere but right now it is unclear which players are interested in Stanford.

I am looking at Stanford's first four matches of the season. The one that worries me the most is Nebraska. The game is on a Sunday at 11:00 am Pacific time. The last time I watched Stanford play a morning match, the team looked like they were sleepwalking. Hopefully a boisterous Nebraska venue wakes up the players. I like Stanford's chances much better against Penn State at Maples Pavilion than Nebraska at Nebraska. But who knows, the opposite of what I expect could just as easily be the outcome.

The only thing standing in the way of them getting the top recruits every year is their admissions office. 99% of the girls that get into Stanford choose to go there. I'm not sure who Stanford had on their radar, but I can't recall a year other than 2005 when Stanford lacked talent. They've always had their fair share of top 10 recruits, and that's not changing anytime soon. Stop worrying.

The issue is that top recruits are committing to other schools before they know they've been accepted at Stanford (or before they're even eligible to apply). The changing landscape of recruiting creates some legitimate concerns in respect to the Card. While I don't think anyone is - or should be - worried that Stanford is going to turn into Oregon State or anything, there's certainly a question about how their acceptance procedures impact recruiting.
