What starters have left early in the past to play elsewhere for her fifth year? I may be wrong, but I believe the "specifically at Stanford part" means stanfordvb is saying that, at Stanford, it's typical for 5th years not to stay for their fifth year (examples include Bowen & Vanjak). Perhaps you interpreted that part to mean players transfer after the four years Yes this is what I was getting at. Rarely ever does a player transfer from Stanford to play elsewhere, but sometimes players to play their fifth year is redshirted a previous year.

I agree with is. Especially because fitz is much more well rounded player than lutz she would be more capable of playing defense and making plays in the back than lutz was. I suggested the option of fitz staying in as when she served freshman year she played great defense and in club she played 6 rotations as well as in the UA match where she played very well in the back court. However when I suggested this I was (figuratively) murdered. You know you're not allowed to have an opinion unless it matches theirs. Fine, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't call others out for having dumb opinions. The previous poster makes two pretty stupid points. One, is that Fitz is looking to play opp after her time at Stanford so she should play there next year. Hambly is going to play whoever he sees as having the best chance to win another title in whichever spot on the court that is most likely to facilitate that outcome. If he didnt think that way, then clearly KP would have been playing right side for the past two years because that is clearly her best position. Two, Stanford needs more offensive options in the backrow. Barring major injuries, Stanford will be the most offensively capable team in the country by a wide margin, and now with the probable addition of Gates, the rich get even richer. Stanford doesn't need more offensive options, they need solid passing and defense to deliver Jenna the ball so she can facilitate the Stanford hitters. IN MY OPINION, Formico absolutely isn't losing her spot.

I said that formico keeps her spot a few posts back actually. I agree with you, i don’t think hambly will sacrifice anything to get a player more reps for what their future may hold, (Shaw set the Stanford men’s team and he’s hitting pro right now), (ma’a is hitting for UCLA part time and he only set pro). The only way fitz would play backrow is if it was a better situation than fo formico, with Stanford’s offensive depth, they just need passers to keep Gray in system so she can utilize all of them.

Players have bad matches... Stanford will have pin hitters and middles to come in when/if need be. Nobody else has this depth.

Prime examples.

No offense but what do Shaw and Ma’a have anything to do with Hambly and/or Stanford WVB lmao They are examples of players that were playing a position for the benefit of their team, not their pro careers. Prime examples. Sure Shaw’s initial role as hitter was likely for the benefit of the team, but him playing it pro sure seems like he’s doing it for his pro career lmao..... and I’m not sure why we need examples (especially when we have examples w/ the team Hambly actually coaches), it’s obvious that Hambly’s job is to win and will pick his team with that in mind. However, I don’t think there’s any significant inhibiting going on either. Fitz can play either Opp or MB after college and under Dunning who knows if she would’ve stayed middle. It could also be argued that while Plummer could be the best player in the world at Opp, she’s also a really darn good OH and could certainly play OH if she wants to after college. She likely wouldn’t have developed as much in the back row either if she hadn’t played OH, and her improvement in passing capability just adds another dimension to her game

When I said “teams” I was referring to their college team, not pro.

I understood what you said, and I literally said I don’t see the point of including those examples when we know that Hambly’s primary job isn’t to coach based on the professional aspirations of his players. And also, just because I quoted you doesn’t mean the whole post was in response to what you said. Thanks tho

Stanford doesn't need more offensive options, they need solid passing and defense to deliver Jenna the ball so she can facilitate the Stanford hitters. IN MY OPINION, Formico absolutely isn't losing her spot. Wow the Stanford thread is the absolute worst in regards to rude close minded people. Especially since, NONE OF US ARE KEVIN HAMBLY, we DON'T call the shots. It is fun to speculate and dream though. Where my thought of Fitz playing sometime in the back is like I said because she'll most likely play opposite during her professional career, she'll have to pass. Especially putting into consideration of the potential Gates joining the squad. But giving Fitz some playing time in the back is to give her little prep for passing duties during her pro career, not entirely taking away Formico's position but almost give Fitz the treatment Lutz got when in the back. Also, this doesn't have to be the case for the entire season. Let her try and prove herself worthy to be a 6 rot player, the worst thing that happens is Formico takes the job outright and we go on about our day. But Stanford is not necessarily a team that's ever had a passing problem, they're one 0f the best serve and passing teams in the country right now and has some of the most offensive production and Gray is a sound enough setter to work with a little weaker passing and she'll utilize Fitz from right back. And also, Hambly didn't decide to put KP on the outside, did we forget that this entire lineup beside Fitz was all John Dunning's idea??? Even Fitzn as OPP may have been his idea but he had already moved Lutz over there, and would give Fitz a look to attack from the pins during receptions. Truthfully, this is NOT Hambly's team, we're seeing John Dunning's work phase out. After this class then it will truly be a Hambly production. Nothing at all against Hambly himself but I think we like to forget Dunning's legacy. And I don't even want to begin another argument between Kipp and McClure. I believe Hambly will make the right decisions in order to win a championship no problem. If Stanford loses it will be due to players, not coaching, i.e. 2017 Final Four. Now I release myself to be eaten alive by the wolves. Sue me

Thanks tho Gavin I included the examples because another poster suggested fitz stay in because it will help her pro career. To me, it seemed like you were thinking that I think hambly should factor in there pro careers, when I’m saying the opposite. It’s okay though, I’m not gonna be snappy back

How can Plummer win this award with Corn fans stuffing the ballot box for Foecke? Not saying Foecke will win, but she will get more votes than Plummer. At least she's getting a few free dinners.
